Moody pinstripe not happy with the light

I have a calathea pinstripe on my nighstand which is at a corner of a south-west facing window. In afternoons we get harsh direct sun at the west window. This app claims that pinstripes like direct sun but Im pretty sure that is incorrect? We are in the southern hemisphere. The plant seems happy enough and gets pink but the moment the sun comes anywhere near it, it looses it’s colour. If i leave the curtain up too high it gets curled leaves or a burn. Would love some opinions on this. We don’t have many options on north and east facing windows and i really want this beauty in my room. I tried to move it furthe back next to the west facing window where it would miss the direct sun and where my other plants are, but it lost all its colour there too. I assume not enough light? Any advice would be apprechiated! #PinstripePlant

Pink means it is sunstressed. These do not prefer direct or harsh sun. Use a north or east window. The bottom of the plant is dying, which is why it is all brown. Trim those pieces for new growth
@Tasmari As with many Calathea species, they don’t like direct sunlight they burn easily and can end up with dry brittle leaves. I nearly burnt my White Fusion leaves due to brief moments in direct sunlight.

My pinstripe is finicky, near bright westerly indirect light and at times a ray of sun would peek through the trees and my pinstripe would react and let me know it. What I’m saying is, your observations of your plant are correct. When we watch closely our plants let us know what they need.

I see you’re in the Southern Hemisphere, I’m in the Northern..so we are opposite in terms of stronger sun directions. East is morning gentle sunlight, your west, right?

I think the app is clear on pinstripes needs, and the ”bright indirect sunlight” is it. Best of luck and happy growing.
Hi! In my experience the Pinstripe looses its pink with too much light, and it returns when you place it in less light.

I have one in my small bathroom window facing north (northern hemisphere). It does not get any direct sun at all, but it still looses most of its pink in the summer due to more light. In winter they get more pink again😊

They actually tolerate pretty low light conditions. I also have one in a cabinet with just a very dim plant-light, it doesn't really get much natural light at all. It has pink stripes all year and does not seem to suffer from the low light.πŸͺ΄
