Pot Recommendations?

Hey friends! It’s been a while and I feel like I’m finally getting the hang of this little guy. I noticed that when I water him, the water immediately drains out of the pot. Is this normal for this plant?

Also, I have him in a 5” plastic pot which I know isn’t the best choice, but should I repot immediately or wait until spring?

@TrueCounciltree Why hello there! How long have you had β€˜Peter Palmer?” There are some potential causes for this. Do you know what kind of soil is in your pot? If it’s still the soil he came in, there’s a big chance it could be peat based, and peat can go hydrophobic and start repelling water. It will run straight over it like water off a ducks back and not sink in. If you feel it and it’s hard and peeling away from the sides of the pot, this is probably the reason. It will have to be soaked (pot and all, for something like 30-60min until it’s rehydrated), to gain back any moisture retaining properties.

Or, if you’ve had this plant for a while and he’s grown a bunch, he might have a lot more roots than he used to! If this is the case and he’s just bursting with roots, the water will run through simply because there isn’t as much soil in the pot inbetween the roots. This is one of the signs you can repot, if that’s the case!
