Is this bad?
I was told that orchids bloom for 6 months and then have to wait another 6 months to bloom again. But Iβm wondering if it still looks healthy.. because the pot has white stuff on it.
4ft to light, indirect
5β pot with drainage
Last watered 1 day ago
@TKsOasis Hi TK! It looks healthy to me! What white stuff are you speaking of? I canβt see any?
Your orchid looks healthy and happy. The pot is just showing some mineral build up.
The white stuff usually comes from tap water if it is on the harder side, or from the fertiliser you use. When water runs through the bark and slowly evaporates, the minerals stay behind, so they collect on the rim and the sides of the pot.
You can switch to filtered water if you want to slow it down. You can also flush the pot with clean water now and then to wash out any salt sitting in the bark and around the roots. If you fertilise often, you can flush the pot every three or four waterings.
Hope this helps.

@FamedGymealily thank you!! I actually use filtered water. And no fertilizer. Ok so itβs just basically salt some how and itβs not harmful correct?
@TKsOasis it shouldnβt hurt the orchid at all, even filtered water will have some dissolved minerals and those will collect on the pot. You can just try wiping it off or next time you repot soak the pot in warm water and some vinegar to help clean it off.
