Prayers 🙏 for Gomez

My avocado ðŸĨ‘ plant keeps losing his leaves. He was doing so good and then not so good. He sits 2 inches away from a humidifier and there are 3 grow lights in that corner. He leaves are still going crispy and falling off. If you look at the bottom you can see him turning to wood. I know he's a tree all tree turn to wood. My question can I still clip him in the hopes that he will regrow better? #happyplants #plantsmakepeoplehappy #plantaddict #citrusgrandprix

I haven't had one start turning woody yet so I'm not positive, but you should be able to trim him if you want to. Out of curiosity, how often do you water him?

In regards to trimming, anywhere you see a little axillary bud like this (pics for reference) is potential for new growth! There's one at the base of every leaf and there should be a few up and down the stem/trunk... Just make sure you leave a couple of those behind and you should be good to go.

I recently cut my big one back completely. There's not a single leaf on it, but it's now pushing out two new branches. They're pretty tough lil dudes, avocado trees...
I don't think I would clip him right now because then he wouldn't have any leaves capable of photosynthesis. Or is he producing any little new leaves to replace the fallen ones? Maybe @WickedValkyrie might be able to help? #avocado
Good luck! By the way I like your begonias ☚ïļðŸ’•ðŸŒŋ
@LuxuryMint aww thank you. Those crispy things ðŸĪĢðŸĪĢ
Just cuz I enjoy sharing knowledge:
Thanks for the tag @LuxuryMint (:
So mine was in bad shape also so I chopped him and look at him him now! It took a month before I noticed any new growth.
@WickedValkyrie omg that's what I did I pinched off that terminal bud from the very top and ever since then I've been getting no new growth and her leaves have been getting crispy
I'm going to be completely honest and say I let him tell me when he's thirsty. He does too. When his leaves start pointing downward I know he needs to be watered. @WickedValkyrie
@PlantEuphoria yours is so handsome
So I actually pinch the terminal buds off of my other ones occasionally, only one of them has ever actually been cut. How long ago did you pinch it? It can sometimes take a long time before you start seeing new growth after that. IIRC the first time I did that I had a similar problem. But the tree eventually figured stuff out and started growing normal healthy leaves again... It's probably just using up the leaves it has for energy to make new branches. But that's just a theory. Lol
Hard to tell for sure but honestly it looks like you may have two little terminal buds(new branches) starting here at the top at the base of those leaves?
