Do I water this plant on the top or sit in water a short...

@HardyBlackpine Hi Gloria, I would suggest top watering as this is more like its origin and also allows you to check the top inches of soil (eg with a skewer) as to when it needs to be watered again. Hopefully the ideas below will help answer your question. All the best ππ
Here are some tips for watering a money tree plant:
Water thoroughly: Water your money tree until water drains out of the bottom of the pot. This mimics the natural rainfall in the tropical regions where the plant is native.
Let the soil dry out: Allow the top two to four inches of soil to dry out between waterings. Soggy roots can rot and damage the plant.
Use a well-draining pot: Make sure the pot has drainage holes to prevent water from pooling around the roots. You can also remove the plant from its decorative pot every few waterings to check for excess water.
Check for signs of underwatering: If the leaves are curling or wrinkling, it's time to water the plant.
Water occasionally and deeply: This is the best way to mimic the plant's natural environment.
Consider the temperature: The amount of water a money tree needs will vary depending on the temperature.

@HardyBlackpine I always water from the top. Also you should check if there is a rubber band or plastic tie at the base of the stalks under the soil at the root base. If it is there, remove it and replace the plant in fresh soil. The growers use a tie or band to keep the braided form but what they donβt tell you when you buy these plants is that the band will eventually suffocate or strangle the roots and your plant will die. I didnβt know until it was too late for my first money tree but my second one is doing just fine thanks to the knowledge and helpful Greggerβs I removed the band on the second one before it got root rot. Good luck and happy growing !
@Shells_Garden oh my. Iβll check mine in the morning, good to know!! Is there a way to keep it braided without a band?
@ProOakmazegill my braids didnβt come apart when I removed but I did tie my stalks at the top of the trunks anyway to keep the braided form. First photo is the damaged plant where I had to remove 2 dead stalks (there is white tie around the top of the trunk) and the second photo is my new plant where I removed right away( red tie around the trunk) . You can certainly tell the difference in growth with the band removed.
