Advice?

The bright pink flower on my Urn plant has faded and dried out, but there are 4 smaller plants (pups?) coming up from the base. Should I cut the flower? Should I move each pup to its own pot? (How?) What will happen if I remove the flower but leave everything else alone… will it be too crowded, or just nice and full? Lots of questions, but I’m still new to bromeliads. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks! #HappyPlants

I’d leave the flower for now! They only bloom once in their lives πŸ₯Ί The pups aren’t quite big enough to split from the mother yet. They need to be 1/3 to 1/2 the size of the mom before they’re big enough to separate. And the longer they’re attached to the mom, the better their chances are of surviving on their own! They divide similarly to aloe or snake plants (if you have any of those) where you can cut them away as close to the base as possible. The mother will continue to live after the flower is gone for maybe another year or two, and should keep giving you pups during that time!

Also, when you finally split the pups off, make sure to not bury them too deep (you’ll probably need to use toothpicks or something to keep them upright while it grows roots) and make sure to not overwater them. I hope this helps! πŸŒΏπŸ’š
I agree with @saatwood πŸ’―
@saatwood THANK YOU so much! I’m going to leave it alone for now and give those pups a chance to grow :)
