Blueberry bushes have really shallow root systems, and that type of brown can be a result of letting the soil get too dry. Whatβs your watering schedule like?
@TheOddAsity She takes about 2 cups of water every 3 days, which feels like a lot in my head but itβs quite warm where I am and she acts extra thirsty. I will say, when I first brought it in, I was also tending to another plant that had a fungal infection from poor treatment at a garden center, so I was way more conservative water wise in the first few weeks as I was in βno oneβs getting root rot on my watchβ mode. I quickly realized that was not the approach with the blueberry bush tho and sheβs been drinking a LOT for at least the past month. Is it possible she just needs even more water all in one and a longer drying time? I did try to stagger the water more but the soil seems to dry out very quickly.
@anjrea it seems as though your photos might be consistent with what this is saying on Google? We live in UT and I have always been told blueberries like shaded roots. To always plant something at the base. Thatβs what I did in my old home (I donβt currently have blueberries planted where I live now). Itβs been super hot here (in the 90βs) and itβs only the middle of June. It usually doesnβt get this hot so soon. So maybe it does need more water? I would try bottom watering, and making sure it drains well. That way it can drink what it needs and then also have moist soil.
@TheOddAsity thanks for the info! I remember reading that overwatering can sometimes present like leaf scorch so I was nervous I over compensated but what you attached does look like what Iβm dealing with. Itβs been in the 80s-90s here (Central NC) and I keep her on a screened in porch out of the sun and I thought the humidity levels would help prevent dry out but here we are! Iβll try keeping the base of the plant shaded immediately after watering and do some research into bottom watering so i donβt over correct by being too hasty. Thank you!
