My teacher’s pothos

PLEASE NOTE: my teacher is on maternity leave and asked me to take care of her pothos that she has in the classroom.

Ok. So my teacher has her pothos in a pot with no drainage, waters it once a week, and now there’s brown on it. Me and the sub talked and we have determined it is overwatered and the lack of drainage is a HUGE issue. She has it in a liner pot, but never takes it out of the outer pot. I cant post a pic (It’s the weekend) but i wanna make sure that IS the issue. @dreamlettuce any ideas? (I’ll probably post an update tomorrow with a pic) #PothosPack #PlayingWithPlantsInsteadOfWorking (I usually look after the plant instead of doing my class work, so I thought this tag was appropriate)
Hi there! I think you’re right—it sounds like the lack of drainage is a big issue. I’m not sure how close/far it is from the window, but regardless, it’s likely being overwatered. I’d recommend repotting, but if that isn’t an option, start by removing the liner pot and see what’s going on if you can. I’d also recommend cutting back on the frequency of watering, for example once every two weeks instead of once a week. Err on the side of less, rather than more, water.
I agree with @hoyahead that this sounds like overwatering.

If you can't repot it, or aren't comfortable doing so since it isn't your personal plant what you might do is put something plastic in the bottom of the outer pot that will allow the liner pot to be raised up a bit. That way the water has somewhere to go and can drain without the plant still sitting in it.
Sorry for commenting late! I agree with the other two 😊🪴💖
