Why does my purple sword plant dropping leaves?
I've had my purple sword plant for a few months now and it keeps dropping leaves and yellowing. I only water when the soil is dry and I am constantly seeing new growth but always losing old leaves. My plant is also located in a east facing window with direct sunlight. Please help! #AlocasiaAddicts #PurpleSword #AlocasiaLauterbachiana #ElephantEar #NewGrowth #Alocasia
@ChansGarden Mind if I follow along with this post? Mine is being moody too. I wondered if mine was too close to my heater vent, but itβs too soon to tell if moving her fixed the prob.
@CaffeinatedFern of course! Iβm going to tag some people as well for more opinions
Hey @ChansGarden, this is quite common. Alocasiaβs often tend to drop older leaves as newer ones emerge.
Maturity, More light and feeding during growing season should help it start to retain more leaves at any given point of time.

Maybe you need more humidity! Also in my opinion alocasias are gluttens for extra fertilizer! @ChansGarden
@RJG I would say from 11AM-6PM
@ChansGarden in an east or a west facing window?
@RJG East!
@RJG thank you so much!
Alocasia are hungry hungry HUNGRY plants for fertiliser. Mine would only keep 3 leaves, killing the oldest as it made the newest each and every time on every single alocasia. Lighting changed nada, humidity changes nopeβ¦BUT the second I started to give fertiliser with every watering, theyβre growing and keeping more and more leaves. (Before and after- 2 months with fertiliser) π€©
