Plants on the red list

Do you ever buy a plant only to figure out that it's endangered because people like you want it in your house... As a house plant... It's not like the philodendron silver sword where, the only way we're preserving its existence is by making it a house plant. The silver sword is going extinct because people keep destroying its habitat. I feel so guilty. I just want to take it back to where it belongs. This poor old man cactus is too far from home.

You are so right- sometimes plants are taken from their natural habitats and it's always good to know where your plant came from: collected in the wild or cultivated οΏΌand mass produced for selling.

It makes me wonder about my own plants ....
Native plants!!! If you’re interested, I always encourage folks to grow native plants when they can. They’ll be more forgiving since the local climate sets them up for success and they are great for attracting local pollinators. They may do better potted outdoors if your indoor temps are very different than outdoors.

They’re often beautiful and can rest more easily in your conscience 😁
The chances of us having a plant that was ripped up from its natural environment are pretty slim, just know your sources. I agree though for these guys to be ripped from their home for people to make a buck is heartbreaking.
