i’m a prop chicken

i just recently had to stake my #FicusReligiosa
it’s shot up like 5-6 inches since i found the little guy, and tbqh it doesn’t look like the growth is gonna stop anytime soon.

should i just keep it supported, or should i chop and prop the top (maybe just plant it next to the first stem). if that’s the thing i should do should i chop on the woody stem or new growth?

i call myself a prop chicken bc it’s my favorite plant. it was a seedling i found and it’s been so good and growing for me i’m scared that if i chop it, it won’t be happy and i’ll lose both the chopped bit and the main plant

any thoughts and opinions will be very appreciated

Here’s a thread on Reddit that is a similar situation:

Chopping it off at the new growth area is not likely going to kill the main plant :) As the comments in this post say, it might halt growth for a bit, but soon will get the message and grow the way you want it to. Unless i am getting the wrong idea about why you want to chop it? I am not very familiar with this plant so i wasn’t sure why the plant growing would be a problem. But i hope this helps πŸ‘
@cereal thank you for the response! it was really getting whipped around by the wind so i was worrying about it getting snapped anyway and it seems chopping will help make it branch out. i think i’m gonna do it
@FicusOnTheGood Ohh ok that makes sense! I’m glad i could help! Good luck to you and your plant 🌱😁
Always chop on the new green growth, it will root much easier. Usually if it is woody it will not root.
