@livslillies Hi Olivia, it looks like itβs leaves are wilting which suggests it is getting insufficient water for its needs. Hence it appears to be basically drying up. This may be due to the conditions it is keep in and how you water it. If you have a pot with drainage holes, what I do it water it with distilled or similar water until it starts to drip out of the bottom of the pot and then let it drain. If it is in the right substrate then it will have enough water for a few days before repeating the process. But this can depend on the conditions it is keep under as they do require a good amount of light per day (and I wonder if it is also getting enough light?). And it prefers a high humid environment as this is a tropical plant and so the conditions should be similar.
@Seymour might know
@Seymour oh goodness, so I dealt with a little root rock problem, and after the treatment I put it back in a blend of LFS, perlite, some LECA pebbles, and a bit of peat moss. οΏΌ I have another picture plant who is having a similar problem but the growth points are blackening. in my both of my plants, the substrate seems to be moist so Iβm not sure whatβs going on. οΏΌοΏΌ
@Seedstarter I am doing distilled water and itβs a blend of LSF, perlite, LECA pebbles, and peat moss.
@livslillies How much light is your plant getting per day? Have you checked it with a light meter app eg Photone that measures in PPFD? Access to light for eg 12 hours under a growlight can help the plant produce the energy it needs to go (or even recover).
If it had root rot, it means it was probably sitting in water rather than properly draining at some stage in the past. It may be that you did not sufficiently kill off all the root rot unless you treated the roots with eg an antifungal treatment like neem oil or diluted hydrogen peroxide (1 part to 4 parts water), even cinnamon powder can help kill off any infection. If there was root rot, this might explain its current distressed continue. I assume you reported it in fresh substrate which wasnβt contaminated by any potential root rot. Unless the root rot is completely treated, it can still be a continuing issue. Overwatering can deny the soil and therefore the plant sufficient oxygen needed by the plant.
One reason I donβt like pure sphagnum moss as it can tend to rot over time.
Here is a general guide on care of Nepenthes
WATER: Plants should be kept moist at all times. Frequency of watering will depend on the environment you are growing the plant in, and the season. Usually, plants kept indoors or in a greenhouse will need watering less often than plants situated outside, where hot windy weather can dry the pots out quicklyβ¦.try lifting the pot regularly to feel the weight, if it feels lighter than usual,- it probably needs watering. Keep the insect catching pitchers 1/3 full of water during hot spells, if they are drying outβ¦
The plants use more water when growing quickly and also when they are in an environment that has a low humidity and is sunny/hot..ie: hanging outside in WA Summer.
The higher the humidity, the less water they need to keep moist because the media will not dry out as fast.
Keeping the media moist but not waterlogged will maintain good oxygen levels in the media, which prevents root rot and makes for a very happy Nepenthes.

@Seymour okay yeaaaa, i tried to tear off some roots but also sprayed a good amount of hydrogen peroxide onto it. i think in giving it good light, its hanging about 2 feet from a WE window and has indirect grow lights ! ugh i just donβt know what i did wrong π
@livslillies Nepenthes can handle between 40 and 450 PPFD of light and can be happiest indoors around the low /middle of the range, between 100-200 PPFD.
@Seymour i swear im doing everything right ππ i think the root rot was just too severeβ¦ my other plant is doing a bit better but sheβs starting to get black spots on her leaves too !!!
@livslillies See how you go, all you can do now is offer your Nepenthes the best conditions for their recovery and they have to do the rest. Hope it works out and I will be thrilled if they come through.
@Seymour thank youuuu ππ
