Dying leaf, leaves curling, tips browning

My #DroopheadTuftedAirplant seems to be struggling a bit lately. It’s one pup has a brown tip on one leaf, and the leaf the pup is in is drying up. In addition, the rest of the leaves are curling inward a bit. #Guzmania #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #help

@PlantosaurusRex hey hope all is well, The browning and drying out of pups in a plant like the one pictured, which appears to be a bromeliad (often mistaken for air plants), is a natural part of its lifecycle.
Bromeliads, including Guzmania, follow a lifecycle where the mother plant flowers and then gradually declines and dies after producing pups. The browning you observe in the main plant is a sign that it is nearing the end of its life cycle, which is a natural process after blooming and producing offspring. But you have drying out of pups so while some drying of the mother plant is normal, pups should ideally be healthy and growing. If the pups are actively drying out, it could indicate issues with watering, humidity, or light, or that they are not yet mature enough to be separated from the mother plant if that was attempted. Ensure adequate humidity and consistent, but not excessive, watering for the pups as they develop. I hope this helps happy Planting 😊 πŸͺ΄
@Kingfern79 Thanks for so much great information! I’m not sure how to water the pup specifically. So far I’ve just been watering the soil around the whole plant. Is there a specific way to water the pup itself?
@PlantosaurusRex, your welcome so to care for pups, wait until they are about 1/3 to 1/2 the size of the mother plant before separating and potting them in well-draining soil.Gently detach the pups from the mother plant, ideally with a sharp, clean knife or by carefully twisting them off. Plant the pups in a well-draining bromeliad potting mix, ensuring not to bury the base too deeplyNew pups may need support with a small stake or stick to stay upright, as they are often top-heavy. Keep the potting mix moist but not soggy and gradually introduce more light as the pup grows. Hope this helps you out happy Planting 😊
@PlantosaurusRex, Guzmania bromeliad pups should be watered by keeping the central cup filled with water and also watering the potting mix when it dries out. The potting mix should be kept moist, but not constantly wet. Allow the potting mix to dry out between waterings, especially during cooler months. Flushing the central cup every few weeks with fresh water helps prevent salt and mineral buildup. Keep the central cup of the bromeliad filled with water, up to about halfwayEmpty any water in the cup every few weeks, rinse, and refill with fresh water to prevent buildup. If using hard water, consider using distilled or purified water, especially for the central cup.
