Our Android engineer @palmhanks recently held an awesome workshop for our team on AirBnB’s concept of the 11-star experience.
The idea is to brainstorm nearly impossible ideas 🧠 You know the old saying, “Shoot for the moon and land among the stars”?
Some ideas we loved:
🧬 Design a custom cultivar named after you

📚 Filling every classroom with plants
🎡 A Greg theme park! Imagine a Plant Care-ousel

But also my not-11-star offerings: functionality to set your watering schedule to never have plants watering fall on weekends or specific days. A vacation function where you can tell greg when you'll be gone and he'll adjust your water schedule for before/after based on plant tolerances to allow those that won't last to be watered early and those that can go longer to be delayed until your return instead of overwatered early. Opening links sent by text or shared in the app instead of a browser. Update oasis pictures with the latest update of a given plant. The ability to mark a plant as deceased which retains their information in your oasis in a historical section but removes watering prompts. Better clarity on how the grow light option impacts Greg's determinations for watering. More options to provide grow light information - wattage or more accurate metrics on energy output, distance from light, etc. The ability to pull up a user's oasis and see what they've posted to the feed. The ability to add custom notes to each plant.
Plant meet ups for people who want to trade cuttings or exchange plants in their area.

@BehattedLlama yes! 2nd the deceased plant feature. I lost a few these last months but don’t want to lose the data history.
@FallenCitrus yes. I’d they was some way we could contribute to getting trees planted & progress updates

1. Maybe if we gain enough XP points we can cash it in and Greg can plant a real tree.
2. Greg merchandise but a portion of it goes to some sort of habitat restoration.
3. Can we have customizable stories for our plants? Like we can add texts, multiple pictures, icons, etc. (Idk if this is already a thing).
4. Gardening classes like Skillshare or MasterClass and comes with premium, but just for all plant related topics such as upkeep, gardening, hydroponics, or learning about native species, plants that help native pollinators, etc.
5. Events for climate change! Whether it’s to educate or have fundraisers that would help battle climate change.
6. I love the Greg planter idea because that would be so cute.

@Kiersten This idea is phenomenal. I have another app I use for identification then another site for validation.
@GardeningDiva hey you actually can, I figured this out the other day actually. 🙂 You go into your oasis, tap the plant that you want to update, tap the plant name, tap the edit icon (purple pen) and then upload or take pic. All my pics were taken in a rush so I want to slowly take nicer pics for my personal aesthetic reasons.
My ten ideas/suggestions in no order of preference.
1. In app light meter
2. Hacks or tips section based on plants
3. DIY section with pictures and videos (planters, macrame hangers, potting soil, etc.)
4. Replies under the actual comment. Knowing which like belongs to which comment
5. Next/back for oasis plants
6. Light/plant suggestions for area of home with use of camera
7. Propagation section apart from oasis with progress pics/time lapse and when you get it to root you are awarded with points and celebration confetti screen, the baby will then graduate to your oasis section 🙃
8. Points for merch
9. Disease/pest identification with camera access
10. Suggestions with actual real products based on ratings from Greg members that have used/had success with the methods.

Oooh ooooh I have another one!! I took my daughter to the dr yesterday and they had what looked like Dracaena but the palm like ones and those things were so sad. I wanted to rescue and rehab them. The dirt was so packed down with zero drainage and dry leaves galore. Maybe we can offer help to businesses with plants. I did this at an office I worked at 5 years ago and they let me buy dirt and repot everything and it came out great. Photo to follow

🌱 I’d love my posts to be on my page, I’ve got my own #Nallon which makes me feel boujie but I’d love a catalogue of my photos on my profile because I’m like that
🌱 obvs I’m with @Hypsie and want a group trip to Costa Rica because I’m still jealous 🤣
🌱 I’d love for us to have a Greg Newsletter, whether it’s an email for members or on the timeline. Maybe users could have guest spots about their favourite plants in their collection, tips on taking good photos of your plants, natural pest control kind of topics to help us get the best out of Greg as a community! It could give the verified members another perk like an interview with one of us?! It’d be a good way to get to know the Greg team too
🌱 I’d love to be able to put what mix of materials I’m using to pot / propagate my plants, I’ve got combinations of soils that don’t quite fit the descriptions, so I’d love to have the ability to add “bark, pearlite, soil & coco fibre” as it’s more draining than just soil etc
🌱 If a member recommend Greg to a shop and they join the programme there’s some kind of perk maybe?
🌱 Here’s one that involves me… I want to do some remote photography of other members of the Greg community and their plants… sounds like a ridiculous idea but I can do remote photography thanks to the joy of something called Shutter App. I’d love to talk to someone on Team Greg about this!!

Greg greenhouses for Hydroponics in water scare areas. 5. Extrapolate data to help farmers Grow more, use water less. 6. Get everyone to love and respect nature again!

@joshuawold see you like cactus. Love the blurbs that tell us how much sunlight we’ll get in a particular day. Does that translate to indoors?
@joshuawold yes. The light in house changes considerably with the seasons. Many locations are fine for winter but not summer
