Can anyone tell me what these reddish brown spots are? I ...

It looks like sunburn to me honestly. A rule of thumb I go by, the more purple on a plant, the less direct sunlight they prefer. Maybe drape a sheer cloth over it. I keep mine in a west facing window and off to the side a little bit so it only gets maybe four hours of direct sunlight a day and when the grow light is on I move it into the background so itβs shaded by my other plants.
My experience is the reddish brown spots just happen sometimes. Mine kinda go through phases of getting them and then it stops. It may have to do with consistency in watering, too much fertilizer and/or humidity. Mine donβt like to dry out so be consistent with watering. And I top water so donβt be afraid of that. I donβt get the leaves wet though!! But they seem to like a good drink from the tap now and then. Some of my best Nanouks I put right under the faucet and let the water flow through, again avoiding leaves. A good flushing of salts and fertilizer helps keep the leaves healthy. I think a northern exposure may not be enough light. I have mine in southeast & south windows. When I got mine I put it in a northwest exposure and it grew long and leggy. The more light the less leggy it will get. And the purple and greens really pop! Lots of light but no direct sunlight. Filter the light with a curtain or keep it back a few feet from the window where the rays arenβt on the leaves. Also donβt be afraid to cut it back here and there. Itβll encourage branching and a fuller bushier plant.
