My plant is dying, am I the perp?
#MoonCactus I hope this is the right group for this cactus. I have been a plant killer all my life and my dad just gave me a piece of my great great grandmothers cactus so I was hoping a cactus might be easier to take care of but since Iβve had it itβs just been dying slowly :( how do I save it? π

More details would be appreciated, but here goes: It might be struggling due to a few potential issues. Moon cacti, while generally easy to care for, do require specific conditions to thrive. Based on the information provided, here are a few things to consider:
First, check the watering schedule. While Moon Cacti are succulents and don't need frequent watering, it's essential to ensure that the plant is not getting too much or too little water. overwatering is a common issue and can lead to root rot, while underwatering can cause the cactus to shrivel and weaken. Since you mentioned that the plant was last watered 16 days ago, it's important to ensure the soil dries out completely between waterings but doesn't remain dry for too long. Adjust the watering schedule as needed based on the condition of the soil.
Second, consider the light exposure. Moon Cacti prefer bright, indirect light. If Clooney is placed in a spot with very low light, it might not be getting enough energy to stay healthy. Conversely, too much direct sunlight can cause sunburn, leading to discoloration and damage. Make sure Clooney is getting plenty of bright, indirect light throughout the day.
Lastly, ensure the cactus is in well-draining soil and a pot with proper drainage. The roots should not sit in water, as this can cause rot. If the soil retains too much moisture, consider repotting the cactus in a cactus-specific or well-draining soil mix.
By making sure Clooney has the right balance of water, light, and soil conditions, you can help your cactus recover and hopefully thrive.

@Gustavo Thank you! I did a little more digging and instead of having it in a glazed clay pot I should put it in a terracotta pot, and possibly some different soil. Gonna look into that & hopefully Clooney will start looking better! Thanks so much for your help & Iβll try to post updates soon as well!
@Seedstarter thank you, Iβll see about getting a better picture and do some research!
