umbrella propagation
hey, all
I was gifted this beautiful tree yesterday but she won't fit in the corner I'd like to put her in due to this one long branch. is it possible to propagate umbrella trees with a mature branch ? I'm in no way concerned about the season , the room I'm gonna keep her in is pretty climate controlled.

Any part they is woody is very difficult to propagate. But as long as it is green and has some flexibility to it you should be fine.
By looking at yours the longer stems still appear green so you should be fine.
What I would do and I have a dozen Hawaiian Umbrellas of the both large and small bonsai. Is prune it, like you said. I would cut the tops off of the longer stems keeping a node on the tops as well that way with each stem you can prop the top as well as the bottom portion. Put them in water not soil when you prop, itβs easier and you have higher chances on success. I have not had success with soil they take too long to root and end up rotting. They take about 3 months to root and will form a gelatinous substance around the bottom. This is okay and normal. Itβs part of the process. Be sure to keep the node covered with water at all times and give fresh water every few days.
You have a beautiful tree. These guys LOVE pruning!
