How do I know when to re-pot?

#VenusFlyTrap I want to grow my venus fly trap and make sure gets nice and big, but I’m questioning her care because of the carnivorous aspect. Also, will she grow without ever consuming bugs? Like is water and sunshine enough?
7ft to light, indirect
4” pot with drainage
Last watered 3 days ago
Water and light is their primary energy and growth source. Think of bugs like a fertilizer… it will live without bugs, but it would thrive more WITH bugs occasionallyβ€” like once or twice a month.
You can buy carnivorous plant food gel if your concern is feeding it live bugs. But they naturally eat lives bugs on their own if left outdoors. For repotting, keep in mind that they need a deep pot more than a wide one. So based on the size of your plant, consider how deep the roots might be.
Yes it will servive without eating bugs and if it’s a young vft then I would wait about 2 months to replant it. Also moss is the best for growing these. The carnivorous plant soil can harm it
I think you repot every one or two years. Bugs are like fertilizer and will grow nicely with them. If they are indoors you will probably have to feed them. I use fish food. If you do feed them yourself I would look up a video about it before you do it. You have to convince the plant that the food is still alive. If they are outdoors they can catch their own food. Venus fly traps like a lot of light. Dormancy also helps with growing.
No need to repot, they like to be cramped. It needs a looot more light! My grow lights are on 14 hours a day. You can use osmocote (safe for carnivorous plants)to feed 1-2x a month but they do grow from just photosynthesis. This is a picture of 1 of mine I’ve had for a few years and it’s been πŸ‘ŒπŸ». You don’t need to fertilize these.
