My #KentiaPalm has some brown tips and some brown leaves ...

1ft to light, indirect
8” pot with drainage
Last watered 3 days ago
too much water! The leaves are trying to communicate the roots aren’t happy ☺️ for palms specifically water when the top two inches or so are dry :)
@TheFernFae thanks! I followed the Greg watering schedule and use a moisture meter and it always says dry, but I can pull back on the water. I’m wondering if I should also repot it? I’ve had it in this pot for about six months and it’s what it came in when I bought it. οΏΌ
@PlantLover2024 if you want to do a quick root check and make sure there’s no root rot or areas holding moisture for too long that’d be a good idea! Typically you’d repot plants every year or so since they only need to be when their roots are super bound, six months in the pot it came in might be time too :)
@PlantLover2024 Julie, I also believe yellowing palm fronds can be a sign of overwatering and root rot. Make sure only to water once the top inch of soil dries out. In addition, browning tips can be a sign of underwatering. In hot, and dry conditions especially, you might have to increase your watering frequency. Have you fertilized your palm recently? Browning tips can also indicate over fertilization. 😬
@Neatundertaker thanks! So I could be overwatering and underwatering lol? I fertilized once months ago and may have added some plant food, but it’s been a while. I’m not fertilizing on a regular basis but I will keep that in mind for the future. Thanks again! οΏΌ
@PlantLover2024 you could inspect the roots and the humidity level after you gently place the pot upside down. Also, check for adequate drainage and rooting at the same time.
@PlantLover2024 Julie, I almost forgot to tell you, because this palm grows slowly, you might only need to repot every few years, and when you do so use only an unglazed clay pot because it will allow excess soil moisture to evaporate through its walls.
@Neatundertaker thank you!!
