Brown spotโ€ฆwhat should I do?

Hi all! My Dieffenbachia has a root which only has one leaf. That leaf is yellowing, and the stem is starting to look like this, with an indented brown spot. I assume it needs to goโ€ฆis that true? Where will I make the cut? And how can I encourage more roots to grow and prevent this happening again? This guy (the whole plant, not just this root) has lost a few lower leaves over the months, so Iโ€™m planning to move him somewhere a little better-lit as I fear itโ€™s sunlight-related (my office can get a little lowlit). Thanks! #NewPlantMom #planthelpneeded #planthelp #GregGang #LeopardLily #Dieffenbachia

Hi Charlie! It looks like your Dieffenbachia might be experiencing some root rot. Here's what you can do:
* Cut the affected root: Use a sterile knife to cut away the yellowing leaf and the damaged part of the stem.
* Repot: Repot the plant in fresh, well-draining potting mix. Make sure the pot has drainage holes.
* Water wisely: Water your plant only when the top inch of soil feels dry. Avoid overwatering.
* Provide adequate light: Move your Dieffenbachia to a brighter location, but avoid direct sunlight.
With proper care, your Dieffenbachia should recover and thrive!
Iโ€™m currently treating a very sad plant, and Iโ€™ve read that adding sulfur to the root or soil can help during repotting. Apparently root rot is a fungus that can spread very rapidly. It infected my entire monstera and I was only able to save part of it. ๐Ÿ˜ฑ Luckily it looks like you can remove that one section on your diffenbachia. Make sure to sterilize your tools. Root rot is the worst!!!!
@USAGardenHub Hi Ashley, thanks so much: I just saw this replyโ€ฆthank you! Iโ€™ll look at doing this ASAP.
@teacher12 Thanks so much Laura!
As an update - I plan to propagate this plant, as I think the rot is much more advanced than I thoughtโ€ฆargh!
