Climbers or hangers?
Hi my #hoya people,
I am thinking about to integrate some of my hoyas into my display and what kind of trellises I might need, but I have no clue which even like to climb and which like to chill and just hang. One or two of the ones that are relevant right now:
1. Mathilda (looks like she wants to climb, but I think I remember seeing one in a hanging display)
2. Lacunosa and krohniana (same)
3. Bella (no idea, but right now she looks more climbey to me)
4. Carnosa (+carnosa KP) (is climbing all over my sister's place, but mine are growing very compactly right now)
5. Kicki
So, dear #hoyahangout, if any of you have any experience with any of these, any suggestions , as always, would be appreciated

I can say my Bella is a hanger for sure. She has never looked as if she wanted to climb she doesnβt throw those crazy stems with no leaves. That is a good indicator β¦ if your Hoya throws the vibes with no leaves it is looking something to stabilize it so it can secure itself to something and then focus on leaves. Carnosa is a climber for sure! Publicalx is a climber. Let me see what else you mentioned above β¦. Lacunosa I have a couple and I would say let them hang no wild vines and I have mine hanging .
@MusicalRedmint I have no answers as I just got my first two hoyas but I'm commenting here so I can also get some advice π«£π
@PleaseLeaf good idea. I swear I've already asked/ researched this very question for any hoya I've bought, but I always forget. Here at least I can look it up again some time later
@MusicalRedmint I just kinda dived in and considering they're fairly fragile I don't want to mess it up π they aren't as forgiving as philos and pothos it seems
@PleaseLeaf I don't know about pothos or philosophy, since I'm no leaf person, but as of yet I love them. And except for maybe one, can only say good things. A bit above 2 months since I started, (discounting two with which I dabbled maybe one or two months earlier. ) and most of them grow like weeds, once they started.
I do have high humidity though and I hear they love that.

@MusicalRedmint yeah I've had plants here and there over the years but I didn't dive in deep until March of this year π my philodendrons and pothos definitely grow like weeds! I've stopped posting for fresh leaf Friday because there's just too many and I don't have anything super fancy π€£

Thank you all for your answers and resources. That helps a lot. Thanks.

@Hoyaobsessed And thanks for your explanation, Alavone, I thought as much, watching the behavior of my climb-crazy aldrichii and erythrostemma. But then I thought, I saw those krohnianas and lacunosas in hanging setups in several displays, and those are definitely stretching their feelers out here again and again. Not with much success (they almost always abort them) and most certainly without climbing almost half a meter in a ridiculously short timespan like the aldrichii, but they do π€·ββοΈ
I guess I will continue trusting my gut then and watch those tendrils.
