Good evening #plantparents

#PinstripePlant I just bought this Punstripe Calathea. When I tried to water her, from the bottom nothing gets soaked up and from the top it runs right through. What should I do to help her out??
1ft to light, direct
5” pot with drainage
Last watered 1 week ago
I'm literally having the same problem with my one plant. I initially just disturbed the soil with my fingers to try to break it up and it helped a little, but I think our best bet is to repot with new soil (remove old soil from roots) !
I’ll give that a try tomorrow! Thanks for advice.
@Wallyswonder Welcome to the Greg community! Looking at the plants soil it looks extremely dense, meaning it’s not likely to absorb any water! Pinstripe Calathea plants need well-draining, loose soil that retains moisture. A peat-based mix with perlite or vermiculite works well. Soil ingredients
compost, pine bark, coco coir, worm castings, perlite, and sphagnum moss.
Soil pH
A pH level between 5.5 and 6.5 is ideal
Watering
Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged
Use distilled, rainwater, or filtered tap water to avoid leaf browning
Repotting
Repot every 2-3 years or when the plant becomes root-bound
Use a slightly larger pot and fresh potting mix. Happy Growing!
