Why are the babies dying?

When the babies die, it's usually becuase the plant is very young or it most likely is a watering issue.

How does the soil feel?

Like @sarahsalith said, it's most likely a watering issue. Spider plants are prolific reproducers, but some of the spiderettes will fail. How close to the window is your plant? The sun might be roasting some of the babies.

My spider plants were dying until I changed my water. Now I water them with distilled water. It’s been a game changer. I’m growing so many offshoots, I’ve been gifting my coworkers.
