Sunlight! How does it work? πŸ˜‚
I went full goth with this #Begonia Jurassic Dino Black Sky I got from The Sill and potted it in a black planter. When I put it in my actual sill, the black pot soaked up too much sunlight and even the soil got warm, which made Max Shreck very droopy and unhappy. Who could have guessed? 🀣
So, my real question: If Rex begonias don’t like direct sunlight anyway, should I still repot it in a color that will absorb less heat? Max is hanging out in the shade for the moment. #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #PlantAddict #PlantSOS #BegoniaBunch #
2ft to light, indirect
5” pot with drainage

I'd definitely start by moving it to indirect light, then going from there. You could also look at where the light is coming from - light from directly above is going to hit the pot less than from the side, etc.

I don't think you have to repot immediately, I think you can take your time.

For reference, my rex sits just below the window so light comes in from above, and it's an eastern window so it's pretty indirect.
Huh, that’s interesting! I never realized how complicated sunlight could be lol! I’m curious to see what the experts say….
When I first got my begonias they needed to be watered very OFTEN. It might just have had hydrophobic soil upon arrival and possibly that black netting stuff around the root system. Just try watering again, check the roots and see if it adjusts. It does look quite sassy in the black pot. I give 3/5 of mine direct sun most of the day and they’re happy.
@FreshWidow I agree with both @PlantMompy and @Jilliebeanstalk. Great advise from both. Gorgeous Rex Begonia.
@Jilliebeanstalk They repotted it for me at the store, so no black netting. It perked up after I let it cool down and gave it some cool water. The soil was still damp but πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ.
@PlantMompy I think this might be the right track. I have it in an east facing window, but not in the sill now. Right now the plant is getting sun but not the pot. It’s the day before watering day, so one leaf is still a little droopy. I may water it now.
Yes! Mine is east-facing as well! Begonias are such drama queens πŸ™„πŸ˜‚
Find a spot with indirect lighting for your plant. Black definitely absorbs heat. πŸ₯°
Also it could be in a little bit of repot shock and it’s in a new environment so double shock. Shocking, eh?
I'm so jealous! Black Sky Begonias are SO pretty!
