What’s happening?

Hello everyone!

My Lithops bloomed which was super exciting however, it looks like after they are sort of rotting away? These are my first Lithops so I’m not too familiar with their life cycle! Does anyone have some insight as to what’s happening? All the other little ones look healthy.

Thank you!

I’ve heard that while splitting you should not water. I know the app keeps telling me to water, but I’ve neglected mine with success.
@MommaStan ooooooh okay!
Yeah when they are in certain life cycles they will rot it watered. When growing in new leaves after blooming they use the water from the old leaves to grow the new. So any water added can rot them. Only water if shriveled or wrinkled in appearance
This chart helps
@SirLiquorice I see! So when I have a few of them in a pot like this it can sometimes be difficult as one Lithops may need water and the other two really don’t want to be watered? Thank you for the chart!!
@siamese.kat exactly. That’s the problem with multiple in one pot. Some will need water when others don’t. If it’s multiple heads attached to one root system then it should be fine since it’s one old plant. But when its multiple with different root systems it may be best to separate them into different pots
Also your plant Aristotle looks like a euphorbia obesa and it’s listed as the wrong type. I have one myself. It’s a female. I am going to order a male to go with it soon. You can tell by the flowers if it’s a male or female
@SirLiquorice oooooh great catch! As you can tell I’m still new to the succulent world - I will get him? reclassified
This is how you can tell when it’s a female euphorbia obesa
@SirLiquorice Ooooo! I think mine is a male?
@siamese.kat yep that’s male flowers for sure.
@SirLiquorice thank you so much! I know we took a detour from my original question but I appreciate your time and knowledge!
You would be able to pollinate them together to grow seed pods. Then you could try collecting the seeds and either grow from seed yourself or maybe even sell the seeds. You can get a female from www.planetdesert.com if you request it in the notes when ordering
This is how a female looks after being pollinated with a male. That’s the seed pods.
The shriveling is part of their natural life cycle. Their pups will emerge from inside naturally. I found this out the hard way…
@SubAlp unfortunately this is a case of the entire plant rotting from overwatering and not the natural shriveling when the old leaves are dying and the new ones are growing. They’re weird plants to get used to but once you do they’re the easiest to care for. Just have to go very long periods of time without watering sometimes. I’ve had to wait 4 months to water depending on the life cycle
@SubAlp but I have seen new plants grow from dead ones before. It’s a pretty resilient plant. But many times when they rot they’re done for
@SubAlp oooh you have so many cool ones in your oasis!!! I still need to add a bunch. I’m probably well over 200 plants now, but being lazy with adding them all to the app.
Thanks!
