Bonsai jack gritty mix

I recently ordered some bonsai jack gritty mix, and I was wondering if any of you guys have used it before, if you like the mix, or your results using it ? #BonsaiJack #SoilMix #GreggersSupportingGreggers #SucculentSquad #SucculentLove

I use it! Have for almost 2 years. All cacti do perfect in it. Certain succulents do great in it, while others do ok but not the best. The ones that don't show signs of improvement with it, get just a smidgen of some kinda of really light weight soil mixed with it. Most of the time the issue is that they are absorbing water but since Bonsai jack is basically a bunch of rock, the water drains from the pot so quickly the plant doesn't get enough to drink. So it has enough to stay alive but always looks deflated. Like crassula buddahs temple, Tom thumb, deception etc do great in it, but crassula ovata needs a little soil added. Echeveria blue bird, Hercules, Lola need a little soil added to it while the rainbow, subsellessis(omg I think o butchered that on, brain fog right now) etc do fine with no extra soil. You just have to pay close attention to how they start to look physically once you transition them over. At first almost all of then will probably be displeased with what's going on but that's normal. Also remember, you can still get root rot and over water them in this. Only water your succulents when the lower leaves begin to really deflate. Even if everything in the pot is bone dry and has been for a week or more. Otherwise their roots (I like to call it "water raw") are getting wet too often, casing them to get fungal Infections/root rot etc. I also mix cinnamon (in EVERYTHING) In my bag and keep cinnamon sticks in what's not being used to help keep pest out of it etc. I love it. I also mix some In with my ariod plant soil as well to add a variety of size.
I haven't used it, but I know it's very gritty and succulents tend to get underwatered with it if you use it like the Miracle-gro brand. It needs to be soaked for a really long time to retain enough water for a succ
I use it in my succulent and cacti mix. I also use the Miracle Grow succulent/cacti soil and perlite in my mix.
i use it all the time and my caudex plants especially love it. i usually mix it with hoffman’s cactus and succulent soil mix. ☺️
@KrunchyWrapz yessss that’s what I was worried about I plan on mixing some succulent soil, in with the gritty mix to avoid some of those issues & YES IVE BEEN DOUSING EVERYTHING WITH CINNAMON EVER SINCE I LEARNED ABOUT IT (I’ve been having some fungal issues lately) but I planned on using it for some lithops , cacti, and my crassula moonglow .
I also wanted to use it for a couple Echeveria , I’ve just been super weary about crown rot, or the stems keeping wet too long? With a Echeverias my idea was to mix cactus/succulent soil as well, so it wasn’t as quick draining, as to just using the gritty mix on its own. This really helped give me an idea of what to expect so thank you!!
I do exactly the same as @AwesomePlants
I use it in almost everything. I mix it with succulent soil for my succulents, and I even mix it into my regular potting mix.
I have used it and I love it! It’s a little expensive for me considering how many succs I own, but I truly do love it. It also looks great as a top dressing. I mix it with cactus soil sometimes, too, to make it drain faster but still have some fine particles for baby roots.
