What’s wrong w my 🍓 shake Philo???
🌼mornin folks!🌼
I’m reaching out today as I have a question… WHY WON’T my strawberry shake grow!? It gave a new leaf I’d say 2 months ago & It has legit done NOTHING since then.
It gets about 6-8 hours bright indirect light in the window sill then gets an hour or 2 of grow light in the evening.
I’ve tried lessening the light it receives, I’ve tried increasing it. I’ve moved the plant. It receives live worm castings fertilizer with every watering as well. It doesn’t appear to be root bound as there are no signs of roots coming out the bottom however since the substraye is so chunky I haven’t tried pulling the plant out to check either… (currently not in window sill but below it as it’s getting its bottom watering from the tray)
I’m at a loss here & idk what to do!
Please share any / all tips & advice.

@elisenavidad have you repotted it? As in, have you checked to see if there’s is a mesh or fabric root binder? My Prince of Orange was doing this and it just kept dropping leaves. I had replanted it once and it had a binder on it, but I pulled it up and checked again… it had a second root binder!! All the roots were dying etc. I have it propagating in water right now trying to regrow the roots.
And I recently repotted some other philos into even more chunky substrate (I am new to philos). Like 10 parts coco chips, 1 part coco coir, 10 parts chunky perlite and a bit of charcoal. And my other philo has pushed out 2 new leaves since giving it more chunky substrate🤷🏼♀️

@elisenavidad sorry, one more thing… I zoomed in on your pics. I would say that substrate is a bit dense for a philo. I would definitely repot with a chunky, airier soil, that when you water, the water just flushes through. Message me on FB if needed and I can send a video of what my mix looks like.
@TheOddAsity I have not repotted it yet so I will definately start there and see if there’s a damn root binder! That would make a lot of sense.
Also, I recently put a bit of my new soil on top of the chunky soil it came with because it was so chunky it legit didn’t hold any moisture! I’ll have to repot, get rid of that additional soil & I will certainly message you if I’m lost!! Thank you very much 🩵🙌🏼

@elisenavidad yeah, I know what you mean! I learned that the charcoal retains moisture for the roots, and the coco coir retains moisture, not wetness, and creates air pockets, but isn’t drying (how is it possible it does all those things? Dunno. But it does). So even if you put like 1/4” of coco coir on top, instead of peat based potting soil. peat soil is so suffocating IMO.
@elisenavidad yeah, you definitely need an ariod soil mix. That’s too much soil. You’ve kept it alive and that’s impressive. Sometimes nurseries send them out with new soil that’s actually bad for the plant after it grows to its purchasing selling point. Your earthworm casting probably kept it alive. I used Molly’s Aroid mix for all my PPPs and Philos.
@PlantJedi @TheOddAsity thank you guys I rlly appreciate it 🫶🏻 I ordered some new substrate so hopefully that’ll help!
