Questions about a planty Christmas present
So, I really want to give my grandma a plant or two as a Christmas present, but I have some questions about doing so.
Question one: What plants could I give?
She has had some experience with plants, but mostly in a garden. I don't think she has good experience with houseplants, though she has some poinsettia on a windowsill. She has no pets, but children (I'm talking ages 2-6 other than me) often go to her house. Part of me wants to buy her a plant, but part of me wants to give her a propagation.
For non-toxic propagations, I have: #hensandchicks, #graptosedum, maybe more?
Question two: Could I wrap it up in a box?
I want to put them in a box and wrap it up to achieve a full surprise effect, but I'm worried they will die before long. Should I wrap it up a day or two before, or right before I leave?

1. So long as the plants are out of reach of children, any plant is fine. Pothos and heartleaf philo look great in a hanging basket, so that works. Most orchids should be fine. In fact, some like Dendrobium have been used in parts of Southeast Asia as treatments for sores, and the Chinese used to use it for medicinal properties. Dendrobiums are your best bet, but get one of the smaller ones like Enobi.
2. You CAN, but surround the pot with newspaper and wrap in either plastic sleeve or paper. Make sure the box is upright

What a lovely idea! I would personally choose an African Violet. They are a true classic and will flower for months nonstop. They donβt get too large so she could put it anywhere. They are non-toxic, pretty easy to grow and will tolerate a bit of neglect.
I would wrap whatever you choose the day before so you donβt have to rush it and can do it properly. Plants are quite durable and a day or two in the dark wonβt hurt them.
That is so sweet of you, she will love whatever you choose, Iβm sure π

@Isaiahs_oasis @Araceae @SuperbRaspfern Hey, yall, I just bought a spider plant and found out it is non-toxic and easy to care for. It is also beautiful, perfect for her! I believe I can split it up into two plants with ease.
@SuperbRaspfern thanks! This morning, I split the two up. In the picture, the plant on the left is mine, and the plant on the right is hers.
