Today at the farmers market I got an airplant. Now that I’m home I noticed that it doesn’t have a roots.Is this now a prop project? #HappyPlants #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #PlantAddict #NewGrowth #PropagationStation #SucculentLove #PlantTherapy #GrowLights #PlantCorner #PlantShelfie #GregGang
3ft to light, indirect
20” pot with drainage
Last watered 10 months ago
It does not need roots its roots are for holding on to trees in the wild just spray with water and don't touch it!
Air plants usually don’t root. Spray 2-3 times a week or soak for 10-20 minutes every 7-10 days.
@Plants_Galore Air plants, also known as Tillandsia, do have roots, but they don't use them to absorb nutrients like most plants; their roots are primarily used as anchors to attach themselves to surfaces like tree trunks, so they can be trimmed without harming the plant as the air plant absorbs water and nutrients directly from the air through its leaves.
Wanted to add after you do a good soak put upside down on a towel to air dry . Excess water gets into the folds and leaves and could cause rot
Very important point from Alavone @hoyaobsessed! After a soak you need to let them dry REALLY WELL upside down for a couple of hours (it's really easy to see with mine is dry because of the really fine silvery hairs, almost like flocking it's so fine, go silvery white again. When she's still damp she looks green).

Mine doubled in size within just a few months... I can't wait for her to bloom though! 😍 Tillandsia have the most AMAZING crazy flowers! πŸ˜‚πŸ’š x
First, that's a gorgeous Xero. I have to stop myself from buying them whenever I walk past a good looking one in a shop or greenhouse. Second, if you follow the instructions here, you should be in good shape. Xeros can handle slightly less watering from my understanding (and my current baby), but watch for changes in the leaves! If you notice them looking a little pulled in or wrinkly, it's time for a soak. I have found that the time between curl and dying tips to be really short, and since they're not ones to replace leaves, you can end up with a Xero either showing the brown, or with blunt leaves where you cut them.

Have fun with it, @Hoyaobsessed. Air plants, once you get used to their wants and needs, are so great to keep.
Not supposed to have roots. Mist it 2-3 times a week and that's it.
Well you’ve found an air plant that I really want to own now!
