When to separate?
My snake had a baby and Iโ€™m probably going to separate it and give it away. Any general ideas on when to separate? #SnakePlant #snakeplantbaby
So most of the people I know with snake plants don't sperate them until the pot is completely full... You can probably get away with separating this, but they prefer to be pretty snug in their pots...
Your snek baby is small, I would wait until it's about 1/3 - 1/2 the size of mama plant. I separated two babies from their mama, they were small and I was over zealous. I lost one baby, the other is growing well. Mama had a 3rd baby which I left with her and the difference in babies is amazing. The 3rd baby has benefitted from staying with Mama plant ๐ŸŒฑ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿ’š
I ditto Sarahโ€™s answer! My snake had some babies so I separated them into separate pots (creating three snake plants total) and none of them are thriving. None are dying but the rapid growth I saw beforehand is gone. Even the baby has stopped growing new leaves. Iโ€™m sure theyโ€™ll adjust eventually but I regret getting over eager and repotting, especially into pots that are probably too large for them on their own. I would wait longer for sure and then pick a small pot when you do!
@Sassylimey Great to know! My snek havenโ€™t had any babies yet, but now I know what to do if they do. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ I also love the little wooden name signโ€“ where did you get it?
Thank you @bizarrekitties lol I made the sign, I saw them for sale at $2.50 each so I decided to make my own with craft sticks, have a few in my plants now ๐Ÿ˜†๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜‰
