Looks to be dying fast

I have watered the recommended amount and it is in direct sun. There seems to be gnats attracted to it and unsure how to get rid of them. Could this be the cause? Also, it is in a plastic hanging basket that it came in. Should I transfer?? Thank you guys for any help you can give!

Did you change the soil it was planted in at the store? I've found big box stores use soil that is so ridiculously moisture retentive, which wreaks havock on succulents. Might also be the cause of the gnats.
