Tricolor ZZ?
I normally order from local sellers when mail ordering plants, if at all at all possible. The shipping is faster and more likely that the plant will arrive in good condition. But searching on Etsy I found these beautiful pink variegated zz starter plants and shipping is free from the Philippines. (Iβm in the USA) Is this a scam (free shipping???) or are there any risks in ordering overseas? Should o be concerned about bringing in non-native pests? #HappyPlants #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #PlantAddict #PlantTherapy #RarePlants #PlantMail #ZzPlant #ZzVariegated #donttellmyhusbandyoucanmailorderplants #ADHDPLANTLOVERS
@UltraKoreanfir both of these are priced at around $23 with free shipping. If it arrives alive! Then I would be satisfied. But you are right there is a risk there. It will be a long trip.
@UltraKoreanfir I donβt buy any big expensive plants, but I am willing to pay a little extra for unusual or exciting small starter plants. I have mostly good luck with cuttings and propagations. Key word is *mostly* lol π I also have a small house so small plants fit in better. π₯°π
@LiftLashPlant I was hoping I wasnβt the first on Greg to order these lol
@nellz4estfairyz I know I know π I hope not either but if you end up getting them let us know how it goes. Theyβre beautiful!
@nellz4estfairyz If you're feeling okay about it, maybe google the seller to find out if there are any complaints or issues reported. If not and you don't mind spending that for a tiny but different plant...go for it. One good thing - ZZ plants are pretty hardy, so it's more likely to make it through that kind of shipment than some other plants might.
@UltraKoreanfir thatβs what I was thinking. Fingers crossed. Iβm thinking about going for it. π
@nellz4estfairyz Also, I've recently started listening to this podcast https://open.spotify.com/episode/33aJ6OyKngUM1qcbkiFGab?si=wkWVvlv5TIq1hvakGAzDHQ
and it has me slightly paranoid that anything looking remotely rare AND coming from overseas could be illegal. Silly? Maybe π€ but I didn't even know or think about this before the podcast. I naively hope that most plants are simply cultivars or are propagated legally, but how would one ever know? It's doubtful that Etsy controls this even though there is likely language in the Etsy agreement before a seller is approved ...like contract/agreement language is a deterrent. It's not, but helps to indemnify them from liability.
Anyway, I'm certainly not trying to talk you out of it. I am just sharing information.
And I will cross myπ€that you get a good starter and it thrives for you π

@UltraKoreanfir idk if I dare listen to it! lol. I will become paranoid.
@nellz4estfairyz π
@nellz4estfairyz Well a funny update, took a shot in the dark and ordered two cheap Monstera Albo cuttings and they are from this shop (didnβt know till after I ordered) lol So weβll see if I receive them and if theyβre in any usable condition. I figured I can always do a charge back if things go south lol
@danisgreenhouse does shipping take forever?
@nellz4estfairyz I myself would be a tad concerned about customs as well as the Dept of Agriculture (arenβt they supposed to check all plantsβn stuff being brought into the States?) Keeping my fingers crossed π€ that all goes smoothly!!
@Blau_Ozean yeah I ended up NOT ordering from either of those Etsy shops. The one had something suspicious in some of the plant photos. It looked like a jar of orange paint or dyeβ¦β¦ it was in the background of the photos and it was the same color as the verigation in the leaves. And the soil even looks orange! π€£ so I thought I better stick to domestic sellers with a good track record.
@nellz4estfairyz umm nice catch because wtf π
