HELP!
My peace lily immediately started wilting the day after I brought her home. Been following Gregβs watering schedule and even moved her to a better window for more light, but she keeps wilting more each day! What should I do??
6β pot with drainage
Last watered 3 days ago
Repot her in a new pot with miracle gro indoor potting mix
When a peace lily does that, it is telling you it needs to be watered, or watered more. Also they are fine with indirect, medium and not bright light. Mine needed to be moved several feet away from a window before it stopped getting brown leaves. But they will tell you when they need water. Later you will begin to anticipate that and head off their hissy fit.
Lots of drainage if grown in dirt. I can't tell if she is rootbound and thirsty or overwatered and rotting under the soil. Move out of direct light and away from drafts. They stress from too much sun and sudden temp. changes and will struggle with even short periods of direct light on the leaves. They do enjoy spring and summer breezes and long walks on the beach...( actually not sure about the beach part).
So, I would check the soil moisture. It should be slightly moist, like a drying out kitchen sponge but never wet, soggy or muddy. If it is then proceed with removing the rootball, checking for rot (I don't think it's that far gone), treat if needed, rinse, dry, repeat...
It's not that it's drowning in water. They can live in water alone. It's that the roots are suffocating because there isn't enough air getting to them from compacting water and soil particles.
AND if the soil is bone dry since three days ago when it appears you last watered it, disregard everything and do a careful reporting. They do prefer to be slightly root bound but they shouldn't be in an environment that causes them to be watered any more or less than once a week (with a wide variant depending on actually plant location.)
Thank you for listening and I'm wishing good fortune for you and your peace plant.
This is a piece I wrote yesterday. I guess I somehow knew it would be applicable for someone else one day. I just didn't think so soon. π
