The usual fern questions, but perhaps someone can be of a...

*main question 4th paragraph down... sry πŸ˜…

I'll start off by saying that all my life, I've had a black thumb, despite my love for plants: pests, potting issues, sun issues, water issues, and my mortal enemy... root rot.

Though I've had my snake plant for 5 years now and while my cat has been a dangus and regretted snacking on her a few times. They're literally a plant you can forget exists, and they're keep on going. (Hi, ADHD here, and it makes it tricky).

But with that intro that should probably be in my bio out of the way; I decided to change this. I found as many easy plants as I could to start with and have been taking great care of them. If my raindrop pepperomia could thrive in my house, I thought others could too.

I bought a "6 pack of easy starter plants," and one was a freaking yellow buttom fern. Not sure who thought that would be an easy task but here we are.

If you view my pictures, that was a 10 day difference. I used a peat moss mixture with medium drainage, keep her in the bathroom where I shower daily (never too hot), and is less than a meter (maybe 1.5 ft-ish) from an east facing window. Now I put him on a tall shelf so all light is filtered through the textured glass and indirect and have made sure to let the top ~3 cm dry before watering. I think you may be able to see the schedule on his page. But if not I'll answer any questions.

I mist him about 10 times a day, attempting to recreate the amount of moisture all the thriving ferns in the wild usually have here in the PNW. But alas, no luck. Very mild fertilizer did nothing, no signs of rot or pests. So is my only option to use a humidifier 24/7? It's fairly humid in there already, but we have a low dew point here. Generally, it seems ferns in the wild here thrive outside of our awful summers.

If anyone can make any other suggestions, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Did you put a layer of charcoal at the beginning will be when you potted it it’s always nice to have a little bit of rock to make sure there’s drainage some charcoal and then a nice sort of Sandy so it drains easy and the other thing you could do is put a little layer of little wood, the wood chips and what wood chips do is they, when you spray the wood chips that causes humidity around the plant and often times are kind of finicky, but they also tend to be kind of I can’t I’m trying Remember pig, then ferns Sarasota like that they’re constantly growing, but then they’re constantly dying all the time and sometimes people will take them and they just cut them down to the if they’re if they’re outside plans in the garden of cut them down and let them grow back up and that’s always possible so maybe that would be a possibility on yours, but it’s hard to say from the picture anyway have fun and see οΏΌ
@atlas Welcome to Greg! That's quite the introduction 😜
First, no, other people are not able to see your plant's photo gallery in the app. So you'd have to share it in your post. Though, in this case, it's not necessary.
Second, I am probably the last person to give advice about ferns (other than a Boston fern I had for a few years that succumbed to the cold this past winter, I've had horrible luck with them). But I'm sure there's plenty of people on here who can help you out @JenniB81 @BabeVila @Boymom-plantmom @RealSimpleMama @Propa what do you suggest?
Sometimes frequency of water is more important than the quantity to another words cut back on the quantity and then I have less frequency that may be what’s going on there cause the ferns tend to be a in the woods kind of thing so they tend to don’t like too much I lied and they like and they they like of being hidden οΏΌ
@Lifeis2short thanks for the tag. I’m having an awful time with my Lemon Button fern too! My rough maidenhair fern is doing great and they are side by side. I don’t understand. Lol. I have them both next to a humidifier I run several hours a day and this is my second button fern, probably my last. I just can’t make them happy 😒
@atlas I’m struggling with mine, too. I hope you find out what it needs! Welcome to Greg! I usually know stuff but not this. Hahaha πŸ’šπŸŒΏ
