Hi! In 3 months my String of Hearts has just taken off. I...

5β pot with drainage

Last watered 1 year ago
@MegGreenFinger Hello π Megan!
Repot string of hearts only when it starts to out-grow its existing pot, moving it to a slightly larger container. Use a free-draining compost mix such as a peat-free cactus and succulent compost, or a peat-free house plant compost mixed with perlite. Repot in late-spring and summer, when it's in active growth.
You should repot a string of hearts succulent every 1-2 years. Your pot of choice should be slightly larger than the plant to allow for better growth. You should dive into the whole process during the plant's growing season β summer and spring.
Your string of hearts β€οΈ is absolutely beautiful! To me it looks overcrowded already. I would move up in size about 2 inches in a pot that has drainage. I would wait until spring time to repot.

Hi Megan! @MegGreenFingerππΌ π
Welcome to Greg!
Did you have a good repot for your string of hearts?
As a general rule repotting succulents is recommended when they've tripled in size in their current pot or its been 18-24 months (to refresh the soil) is a good rule of thumb.
I also always repot succulents out of their nursery pot within 2 months of purchase to give them better soil & a more porous pot type like terracotta or clay.
I recently did this with my string of hearts and it was kind of a pain in the butt π
BUT she's happier now.
Here is my before and after pic - (the plastic pot was the before).
Personally, I find it easier to repot when the soil is mostly dry but not bone dry (about 3-5 days before watering day) Then I wait 3-5 for the plant to settle in and then water it in the new pot.
The many tiny root bulbs are kind of a nightmare and you have to do a lot of gentle untangling as SOH like to intertwine their strings while growing... but if you go slow and steady you get it done eventually. π¬π β₯οΈ
