New things!

I just got myself these two bad boys for Christmas and the girl I got them from has them β€œpotted” in a way I’ve personally never seen or dealt with before.

Anyone else use this? Any tips?

My only advice on these guys is get them climbing asap. The sooner they grip and climb the spooner they get fenestrations
@RJG they’re not rooted yet so should I wait until they are to get them something to climb? Or will they be ok in whatever this is?
@TattedHibiscus I would let them root fully then when you give them their first semipermanent pot get them on a pole asap.

It's perlite and stratum, I see it alot, works pretty well to root I feel, you should be good to leave it in that πŸ™Œ
@RJG ok will do!! I’m sure I’ll bug you if I have more questions lol
So pretty 😍πŸ₯°
@skyhighsplants have you used it before? πŸ˜…
So I personally haven't but I see it alot and I did a swap and received this sarian in a stratum, perlite and leca mixture and decided to leave it and not disturb it and its doing very well!
My normal is just rooting hormone perlite and leca but I know alot of people love stratum @TattedHibiscus
πŸ‘πŸΎ for #NewThings I hope the above advice helps them to grow and thrive πŸ’š
I use stratum quite a bit for props and then use other mediums so I can compare the growth. The stratum grown props grow roots and grow them amazing while the other mediums haven’t grown a single root at all yet. It’s pretty amazing stuff!

I love using stratum to root in. It is super well draining but the medium itself also has tons of nutrients that help your plant get off to a great start.

The way yours are setup that perlite is acting like a reservoir for your water. When you add water don't go above thr perlite. The stratum will pull water up from there whenever it needs.
@skyhighsplants how often do you have to change the water in the big bowl? Do you use certain water? Spring water or anything like that?
@MrsSmith thank you!! I hope so too πŸ₯°
@Propa that’s pretty sweet!! I’ve never seen the stratum before so I’m very interested to see how it goes! How often do you change the water or the medium?
@DevotionalSucc πŸ‘€πŸ˜ welcome to Greg!! πŸ€—πŸ’š
@tmbryant37 ok cool! All she told me was fill the bowls with water to the top ish of the perlite, but not much else. How long can you leave them in there?
@TattedHibiscus I’ve had some in the medium for probably 3-4 months, I put some shingle plant cuttings and Hoya rope cuttings in there in parfait cups with dome lids, perfect little humidity container. Don’t have to water as often and they love it! And the cuttings in regular soil have yet to grow any roots of the same type of plants πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ
I never change it and just use filtered water from my sink πŸ˜… @TattedHibiscus
Also like Leca or perlite you can actually use stratum as a permanent medium to grow inπŸ™ŒπŸŒ±πŸ”₯
@skyhighsplants since these are trailing guys, would I have an issue sticking a moss pole/trellis into it? If it works well I’d like to keep the same medium!
They are gorgeous! Get them to climb! ✨🌱✨
@TattedHibiscus I also agree with @RJG πŸ’―
They can stay in the stratum for as long as you want, but I'd leave them until they're ready to pot up.

Technically you could use the stratum as a permanent medium, but that would require you to change it out every so often, and it's tough to figure out fertilizer as such, so I only use it to root in.
@AstroMind I’m so excited for them to grow! πŸ₯°
