Ms. Ruby, Ruby Ficus leaf I propped in H20 has great root...
I was so excited about the roots that have grown on a leaf propped in H20, I forgot to take a pic of them. They were growing up out of the previous " starter cup" ,so I am using a wider and deeper pot, with a Ninja cup on top, ala Mini Terrarium. ",Gemini" says i should open once a day for 30 minute, So she can breath. Is this Correct Info? #happyplants #plantsmakepeoplehappy #plantaddict #newgrowth #propagationstation #succulentlove #planttherapy
I would remove her from the terrarium. Her leaves will get fungal issues and mold otherwise. She doesn't need it. They are not picky. I have 2 of them that have transitioned just fine from water to soil with no added humidity. They are very easygoing plants.
You have come so far with her already I just don't want her to go downhill in there. π©·

@SuperbRaspfern, because compared to you (xp points) I guess my knowledge rate is "imbecile, so Off with the Ninja cup. I definitely will keep an update going. Thanks π!
@DaringColtsfoot Sounds great, your knowledge is not "imbecile". I am sure I just answered more questions that you π©·
@DaringColtsfoot thatβs an excellent happy accident! And now the sad news, your leaf will last a while but wonβt ever grow into a new plant - the leaf lacks those buds. With good care my friends says your leaf could last years.
@DaringColtsfoot Iβll say itβs inaccurate, AI chatbots donβt always get everything correct. I even double checked my gardening propagation book, ficus require a piece of stem to grow a new plant.
@DaringColtsfoot I get why those videos look convincing. Iβve seen plenty of them too. They usually show a leaf with its petiole growing roots, but they never show it forming a stem. The stem is where the buds are that grow into new shoots. A leaf on its own can root, like yours has, but it wonβt grow into a whole new tree. Thatβs how Iβve always seen it explained.
