Best way to repot this cacti/succulent arrangement I got as a gift??? #cactusclique #succulentsquad
A friend sent me this arrangement from 1800flowers, & the potting medium is weird/hard. the little leaflet it came with only said it has some sort of additive (probably glue????) to ensure it would arrive in one piece. It's so weird, because it has 2 holes in the bottom of the plastic, & the care instructions said to bottom water it due to the hardened medium. (Thus the pie pan) #buttchug

What would you do?? Would you remove it from the original plastic pot, break up the hardened/weird potting medium, rinse the roots and repot into new pot?? (I have a terracotta bowl planter waiting for it)

I have never seen any glued substrate with a live/healthy plant! ๐Ÿง๐Ÿ’”
But I think you have the right idea with breaking it apart gently - just like youโ€™d do with any bad soil.
Save those girls and give them the loving environment they need!

LOVING that orange cactus, BTW!! ๐ŸŒต
@miniistars thank you! I feel much better now about going forward with this!
@ShibaSunroom curious to see them once youโ€™ve repotted
That is so odd. But yet agree with your plant of action. Cant wait to see how it goes
I just love your hedgehog and cat in the corner of the picture. So cute!!!
@TJphilobsessed thank you! The cat a friend made for me out of papier mรขche, and I made the hedgehog out of sculpey clay!

I am actually a potter by training (but just finished nursing school for job reasons) but I don't have access to a kiln, so instead I make little animal figurines out of sculpey clay now.
@ShibaSunroom a potter!! Thatโ€™s amazing Tracey! My son got into that for awhile and made some cool things. We donโ€™t have a kiln either. Iโ€™m obsessed with pottery and the more unique the better. Congrats on finishing nursing school. Thatโ€™s not an easy feat! My husband is an RN and works for a hospice company. But it took him awhile. Nursing is a calling!

You should save up some $$ , buy your own kiln, and all of us Greggers can order pots that you makeโ€ฆ..in your spare time, of course. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚
@ShibaSunroom so cool! Iโ€™m a nurse (LPN) working at a large local hospital. I got a small pottery wheel for Christmas, but donโ€™t have a kiln either, so have only used air-dry clay so far.
Maybe Iโ€™ll try Sculpey next, Iโ€™ve been watching videos on it forevvvver! ๐Ÿ’“
@ShibaSunroom have you watched The Great Pottery Showdown? Hubby and I are obsessed ๐Ÿ˜
@miniistars *Pottery Throw Down!!
@miniistars yes! And I'm obsessed too! I get all loud at it like most others do about sports! ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚
@miniistars @ShibaSunroom WHAT?? Weโ€™ve got TWO pottersโ€ฆcome on ladiesโ€ฆ.Greggers need cute pots!!
@ShibaSunroom me tooo!! I love it!
@TJphilobsessed I need to get better first! And find a kiln! ๐Ÿ˜
@miniistars Iโ€™ll waitโ€ฆโ€ฆ.๐Ÿ˜‚
And hats off to you nurses. I know how hard my RN hubby works and just know that you both are appreciated greatly! @ShibaSunroom too!
@TJphilobsessed donโ€™t hold your breath lol! And thank you!!! Itโ€™s one of the reasons I have plants. I can care for them and itโ€™s actually RELAXING! ๐Ÿ˜Œ
Update: omg, whatever they used to harden the substrate is HARD! I'm soaking the whole setup in a pie pan of water & chipping away on the top with a titanium camping spork!!
@ShibaSunroom ๐Ÿ˜ฎ๐Ÿ˜ณ
@TJphilobsessed exactly my face too!! & yay!! 1st baby is free!!
Bizarre - rock hard substrate chunk ... how am I supposed to not harm the roots?! ๐Ÿ˜ฐ
2.5 hours later: DONE!
Small chisel or flat-head screwdriver perhaps?
WOW @ShibaSunroom it was worth the effort the end product is beautiful and I know those gals are going to be so much happier now ๐Ÿฅฐ๐ŸŒต๐ŸŒฑ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿ’›
@Sassylimey thank you!! It definitely was worth the effort!

Now I'm trying to figure out how to build a #ikeagreenhouse !
@TJphilobsessed yes! That's definitely the plan and now that's a great idea for my target market lol ๐Ÿ˜†
Yeah many places Iโ€™ve seen like arrangements at Hโ€‘Eโ€‘B grocery stores will have the top layer of rocks glued on it appears. All you can do is fight the glue gently or bust the pot if thatโ€™s the only way to prevent damage to the plants
@ShibaSunroom came out really nice
I love that brand of terra cotta pots also. Pretty inexpensive and really really good
