What does this mean?

These are the leaves of my Bird of Paradise. More pictures are in the comments.

All the new leaves look like this.
They love bright, indirect sunlight. Avoid too much direct sun, which can scorch the leaves. Rotate the plant occasionally to ensure even growth. Happy gardening!
Oh no!! This might be a fungal issue. Iโ€™d evaluate the roots if you can, but I know this guy is huge.
@theloveofplants ~ Hello Rachel! I hope youโ€™ve been well โค๏ธโค๏ธ

So the browning is a sign of under watering! They are also known to do that if they donโ€™t get enough humidity!
The yellow spots are a sign of overwatering! Edema
I know they say bright, indirect light, but morning direct light helps them out a lot!!

I have 3 of them now as I have split them all up! So I only have one plant per pot, which allows more space for babies to pop up!
I donโ€™t think one of mine doesnโ€™t have brown spots somewhere because our humidity isnโ€™t as high as theyโ€™d like! And the caterpillars just LOVE their big, lush leaves so Iโ€™m trying to help that one now ๐Ÿ˜“
@USAGardenHub - Ashley, thank you for your insight on Bird of Paradise care! ๐Ÿ˜Š
@elisenavidad - I am wondering this tooโ€ฆ.I have an anti-fungal solution I can add to my watering can when I water her next. I was planning to repot her in the spring and maybe try to separate her.
@JenniferNoel - Jennifer, thank you for your insight on this! Sounds like you have a lot of experience with BOP!

So I typically mist my BOP every morningโ€ฆI have been slacking on that lately which could also account for the brown crispy spot.

As for light. I have her in a spot that receives perfect morning sunlight. And great bright indirect sunlight throughout the whole day.

I am wondering if I need to cut back on the watering now that itโ€™s going into winter.

Your BOP plants are beautiful! I am planning to repot her in the spring.
I knew that the leaves split like that - which is one of the reason why I love BOP! I am just wondering why the newest leaves are crinkly looking?

Ohh noo! Those pesky caterpillars! ๐Ÿ›
@elisenavidad - I think the roots look fineโ€ฆ.but there is this white stuff?
@elisenavidad upon further inspection ๐Ÿง I found some rotting rootsโ€ฆ
@elisenavidad @JenniferNoel @USAGardenHub

Wellโ€ฆ.that escalated quicklyโ€ฆthe second picture-that was the one causing all the troubleโ€ฆ๐Ÿ˜ณ so I have repotted the other two (third picture). I removed any brown or squishy roots and treated it with a fungicide for a precaution.

I am sweating - that was a workout!
@theloveofplants damn, girl!!! Go you!! That was one big job ๐Ÿคฃ

However, Iโ€™m so glad you found the culprit & hopefully she turns around & only thrives from here ๐Ÿค
That thing looks stunning, Iโ€™m in love ๐Ÿคฉ
@elisenavidad - it really was a big job! Goodness me - but totally worth it! I am glad I found the culprit too! AND I realized all the pictures I sent of the discoloration in the leaves was from this oneโ€ฆI will see if I can rescue herโ€ฆ
@elisenavidad - thank you โ˜บ๏ธ she really is a pretty one, isnโ€™t she? I hope she doesnโ€™t die on me after getting into her roots and messing around. Do BOP plants usually recover okay when repotted? Itโ€™s been a while since I repotted so I canโ€™t remember.
@theloveofplants dude Iโ€™m 99% positive these will both turn around in no time.

My experience with BOP is theyโ€™re super resilient & bounce back quickly with the right care. I donโ€™t remember having to deal w any transplant shock really after my last repot almost 2 months ago, it actually threw a huge leaf right after!

I know youโ€™ll have the problematic child whipped into shape in no time ๐Ÿคฃ That bio fungicide from arber works soooooo good! Iโ€™d read the instructions on the back though bc if I remember right, I had to cover the tops and bottoms of the leaves w the stuff too, which wasnโ€™t an issue I just wouldnโ€™t wanna do it inside ๐Ÿ˜‚
@JenniferNoel Wow! Your bird of paradise are beautiful! Iโ€™m growing some from seed they are about 4 months old. I canโ€™t wait for them to look like yours! I know who to ask if I need any help now ๐Ÿ˜ฎ๐Ÿ˜
@theloveofplants & @SuperbRaspfern ~ THANK YOU GUYS SOOO MUCH!! These guys are my absolute favorite so I REALLY TRY to keep them happy!
Iโ€™ve heard they donโ€™t flower on our west coast and theyโ€™ve only seen flowers on the east, but I LOVE their big lushy leaves ๐Ÿฅฐ So if I never get it to flower Iโ€™d be ok with it because in my opinion the leaves make up for it!
@theloveofplants - Rachael, your big one is AHHHHMAZING GIRL! I canโ€™t wait for mine to get that big! I had one that was pretty close to the size of yours, but I gave it to my grandma before she passed and then my aunt got it! I had separated it and it gave me some babies! Now Iโ€™m waiting on babies from my other 4 ๐Ÿฅฐ Iโ€™m thinking you should be going some babies soon as well!
