Calathea Pilosa vs. Ctenanthe Lubbersiana Anyone? Anyone?
Ok so I’ve been back and forth with this for months now. I can’t decide if she’s a Pilosa or a Lubbersiana and it’s costing me my sanity!!! 🤯🤯🤯Please help! lol
What’s most irritating is that if you Google both plants, you can find info that says the are actually one in the same plant AND you can find info that says, no, Pilosa and Lubbersiana are in fact two different plant species!!! Which is correct?!?! 🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️ 🤔🤔🤔
So I have decided that I can’t decide and you guys must!!! Please!!! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
If you think it’s a Calathea Pilosa, comment with a P and if you think it’s a Ctenanthe Lubbersiana comment with an L.
Which ever gets the most votes is what she’s going to be, THE END!!!
I tried to get pics from every angle, and of the stems, and the front and back of a leaf. #HappyPlants #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #PlantAddict #PlantTherapy #PlantCorner #GregGang #GreggersSupportingGreggers #GregCommunity #CalatheaCrew #Calathea #CtenantheLubbersiana #help

@Araceae ok, so your’re saying that they are one and the same plant.
It’s extremely difficult and frustrating that there is actually completely conflicting info out there that is telling people that they are two different species (so in other words, if you’re a collector, you would want to get one of each).
I’m tellin ya, this is the perfect example of why Gregg is amazing and I’m so glad that I found it!! And I know you specifically have helped me many times before and for that I am indebted!! 🙏🏼 Thank you🫶🏻🌱

@JesssJungle thank you!! I actually think I found her at Walmart this past spring…
@PioneerRutabaga a Walmart? That's neat! I know I've only been to a Walmart to look for plants only once, during fall, but I remembered I bought 4 plants (two containers): a dying Creeping Myrtle and 3 Madagascar Periwinkle that were dying lol
They were like 2 or 4 USD (I don't remember, but I remembered paying with a 5 USD bill)

@Catplantaddict really??!! I have somewhere in or around 300 plants throughout my house and I would say probably 1/3 of them are from one Walmart or another. I’ve found a few that I had been looking for there.
The only thing I advise, if you do purchase from Walmart, u absolutely have to go through a quarantine period and even after I’ve quarantined, I’ll give a good rinse and neem spray…
Most that I’ve gotten from there have had one infestation or another…
If your the kind of green thumb that enjoys the challenge of bringing plants back from the brink, it’s a good place to find those poor babies as well. I have an Episcia Cleopatra that I got from Walmart. It was so bad, they didn’t even make me pay for it!! I guess they didn’t think I’d be able to save it. I wish I had taken a before pic. I def had my doubts, lol but she’s made a come back and doing very well. I do enjoy saving plants like that…

@PioneerRutabaga neat! I only have like 20 because I was pretty capped because I didn't have much room, but I cleaned my room today and it feels a lot bigger! Those two plants I bought were my only store rescues (I say store rescues because I have some plants I'm "rescuing" because I forgot about them).
Lol I'm in the middle... To me she's a Ctenanthe Golden Pilosa! 🤣🤣
But they're all different names for the same plant... She's not actually a Calathea - Maranta, Stromanthe and Ctenanthe were all redesignated as the horticultural community got to know more about them all.
Tbh, I'm a bit of a pedant for plant names! 🫣😂Having met this awesome, worldwide community I realised how often we use entirely different names for the same plants and the same names for different plants!! Like, a LOT - do you know how many plants they called "money plants" around the world?! 🤦♀️🤣🤣 So I tend to use the horticultural names where possible. And I'm a geek so I love learning this stuff 😂😂 x
