Yellowing spots on azlanii

Hi everyone! I haven’t posted in a bit. All your help has been so appreciated. I learned so much that I was able to get by with all the knowledge I received.

I have not quite figured out the cause of this though. I don’t know what to do, how to help, or how to prevent it on the new leaf.

I got this plant maybe two weeks ago? Give or take.
It had a small mark on it, but now it’s turned to yellowing spots on the leaves. I’ve never had this issue with other plants. The yellowing has always been on the outer edge but never in the middle.

This is my absolute favorite plant. I love her so much. I need help getting her healthy and happy.

That looks like cell damage from within the leaf. The regal shield presents with the yellow ring around the areas. What happens is overwatering the plant will cause the cells to burst. At first it will start a small spot that looks wet with some darkening. As damage progresses it will get the yellow rings. (Not talking about the thin yellow green coloring around the leaf, that is supposed to look like that!)

Since she is new to you she may have come with the damage and it became more obvious with time. The yellow around the edges was the signal to cut back on watering. Allow her to become almost dry before watering every time. Although she cant fix the damage that is done. That will help to not get new damage.

She is beautiful ❀️
@SuperbRaspfern oh my goodness!! Thank you so so much! She has not been watered since the 4th I think. I just watered her today because she has super dry soil. She has some spots when I got her so I figured it wasn’t necessarily my fault. But I wanted to make sure.
She is also in a very airy medium so hopefully she’s okay.

Also should I take that leaf off? Or is it okay? thank you again ❀️
@PrettyPlant94 Hi Isabella! Solid advice from Shannon as usual 😊

Since you only have the couple leaves, I personally would keep it for now until you have more growth. Once you have some more leaves, I think it would be ok to remove it.
Ive been trying to leave my droopy disfigured leaves on my alocasia until theyre dead dead ! Lol. It has kinda helped to keep it producing new leaves i think.
@PrettyPlant94 Don't remove it yet. She can still get energy from it still functions for photosynthesis.

I would remove it after she has 3 leaves total. That will leave her with two good leaves.

It's always best to ask to rule out anything bad. That was a smart decision. I always enjoy giving people good news. It doesn't happen everyday πŸ˜…. Yours was good news so that personally made me very happy 😁❀️.
Although I will confess I do cut them off early sometimes if damaged. Because it makes me sad to see them damaged. They are still okay if you cut them off, it doesn't kill them. The corms under the soil store nutrients and energy. So they are quite forgiving.

My Alocasia Jacklyn I bought and when sent I was gifted spider mites. I will cut down to one leaf if I have to. She's always bounced back just fine. I think I got them under control for a couple months and then boom itty bitty webs. I just saw one this morning on her again. So I got my neem oil out and sprayed away along with any plants near her. Then I also spotted an itty bitty web on my split leaf philo. My son left because of the neem smell and I was in attack mode so it was quite overwhelming. I was on a mission. But I caught them very early. I have to because I have so many plants throughout my house. It's like a jungle!

This is just my living room and the last photo shows my Jacklyn that just got doused and everything around her. But with my vines all over those little buggers can travel!!!!

Any way I got sidetracked. It's best to wait but won't kill your Alocasia if you can't stand to see the damaged leaf ❀️

I think alocasia make spider mites lolπŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ. Several if mine are a never ending battle. I mean it ends for a 2 months then theyre back outta nowhere!πŸ˜‚πŸ˜€ @SuperbRaspfern
Especially jacklynn! Mines a 1 leafer AGAIN! Right now lol
OMG they are so annoying!!! I am also relieved it's not just me. I know they are attracted to the scent of them but seriously! πŸ˜
