Leaf comes out of soil
Hi everyone! I just got this pinstripe calathea today, and I started to clean it, and the leaf just popped out! The tip of the leaf is yellow and Iβm not sure what to do.. any advice?

@PrettyPlant94 Iβm thinking this may have been root rot..
@LushLeaves25 oh noo :( is there any way to save it?
@LushLeaves25 also when I just looked at it again.. the leaf is curled into its self on the edges
@PrettyPlant94 newer leaves typically have a curl to them like that while they are unfolding. The yellow tips are not uncommon, they can be picky about humidity. The reason I think root rot is likely is because of how easily you described it popping out and it has yellowing on the end of the stem. I canβt quite tell from the picture, but is there any kind of node or root on the bottom of the stem? I think your best bet if there is would be to clean that and then try to propagate it in water. Could still be a longshot if it was affected though. Itβs hard to tell if there is anything left in the pot that might try and come back in the picture, but even if it did start, you would have to handle the root rot and it may not be established enough to handle that process.
@LushLeaves25 I donβt see any node or root at the bottom. What do I clean it with? Just pure water? Would it be smart to take the dirt out and look at the roots? Or should I leave it.. thank you so much for your help
@PrettyPlant94 does the stem feel solid or mushy? If itβs solid, I would get it into either spring or distilled water after cleaning it with a small amount of hydrogen peroxide, few sprays and rinse before putting into glass with some water. If there is a node, it might root, but itβs hard to see if there might be one. Worth a shot since the leaf is already detached and doesnβt have many options. As far as digging up the plant, since you have no leaves, I would gently try to expose where the leaf came out and see if you can find a solid piece of the stem/root. If you do, see if it feels solid or not. You can dig it up and try to salvage anything thatβs solid. It would need rinsed as well, same as the leaf stem, and completed repotted with a new pot and soil to be safe. Still could be a long shot for both if the damage was pretty bad.
@LushLeaves25 thank you so so much!! I ended up looking at it closer, and it was 100% done for.makes me sad but itβs okay!
@PrettyPlant94 I was nervous about that too. Sorry to hear itβs gone, but you should try again sometime! Here is mine, Iβve had her for a little bit now and I just love her!
@LushLeaves25 wow!! She is gorgeous!!
My mom got a pet friendly mystery box from heyrooted, and it came with a pinstripe calathea in a four inch pot. So I got a new one π€

@LushLeaves25 I just cleaned her, sheβs a little sad but sheβs been in a box for like a week, so hopefully she perks up :)
@PrettyPlant94 nice! π I bet it will perk up after a day or so. Enjoy your new plants!
