This is normal for the quill, its life cycle is ending for that part of the plant. You can cut it at the base of the stalk and it’ll grow a new one next year, plus a progeny pup plant will grow beside it. You can propagate that when it grows. Cheers!
Was it indoors or outdoors when you bought it? Try to recreate where the store had it.
