no clue about this variation, but usually poinsettias are temperamental little jerks. they are extremely picky on the amount of light they want, and they despise wet feet, so water only when the soil is completely dry (use greg's schedule as a reminder, it cant really know the moisture)
even then, they're not known to live super long, poinsettias that last another year usually don't go as far to make it one more.
so dont feel bad if you cant save this guy. remember it's the plant's fault :)

Bernadette! I have a similar plant! It's okay if the leaves fall off, they'll grow back.
Each winter, my little Japanese Poinsettia looses most of its leaves, but as soon as the temperature rises and it gets more sun, the leaves pop out again.
Right now, mine is sitting in a plant cabinet directly under the grow light.
What kind of grow light are you using? There are so many different kinds.
I'm going to save your post so I can show you my plant when I get home from work. (: I'm glad you found Greg!
