Plant Mail!!
Plant Proper delivers again! I ordered a #HoyaCaudataSumatra (pic 1). I love the rugged shape of the leaves 🍃 with an almost serrated edge. I also ordered a #HoyaEndauensis (pic 4), but I received a… #HoyaEngleriana? (Pic 2 &3) I had never seen one or heard of one. Look how tiny and flat those leaves are! The Endauensis reminds me of parsley with the ripples 😂
And #plantproper is always the best at making things right and shipped out what I originally ordered and told me to keep the one I received by mistake.

They are here! And gorgeous as always.
I had heard of the engleriana in the context of the bella and how to differentiate them. My shop has cuttings in regular intervals as well (she loves everything in the bella family and the linearis, which is related to your new beauty, so of course she has it as well). With all that, she has been on my radar for a while now. Happy growing.
The pictures were worth the wait 😉

@MusicalRedmint wait, did you have an opportunity to get a caudata and passed it up??? Because that’s what I did last year and i have been kicking myself for MONTHS!! I jumped on this when I saw they had them. I wasn’t gonna miss out on it again.
@MusicalRedmint and it sounds like your Hoya lady has fantastic taste!! I haven’t quite been sold on the look of the linearis, I haven’t seen one in person. They remind me of a pine tree for some reason. And the Bella is hard to come by in my area. But that is good to know their family tree!!
Yep. The one that I wanted from the very first time I browsed her online shop. (Caudata sumatra). As you said, she has the best taste. I saw those blooms (she only posts those of plants that have bloomed for her already), and they more or less gave my fledgling hoya interest the last push toward full-blown obsession. I clicked on it and saw they had been recently sold out. So I waited. And a few weeks ago after my last hoya haul, I saw she had rooted cuttings again. And jumped for joy. Then, I remembered that because of my health (and resulting financial) situation right now, I said I wouldn't buy them any more plants. I argued I would only get the one then, which meant driving by the shop (which I couldn't at that time, because I wasn't allowed to yet) or paying the same amount for shipping that I payed for the plant. Or talk my mother into getting some more hoya (I've infected her 🤭 long ago) so that she would either drive there or we could skate shipping... and while I tried to get all my ducks in a row, she was sold out again. And although I've discovered im quite shameless when asking her for cuttings of plants that are not scheduled to be cut, I just did that several times, so I thought it was a sign to wait. And then I've seen them pop up on Greg everywhere 🤬 doesn't make it easier, I tell you.
So yes, she has the best taste, though she likes those needly ones as well, which I'm also not a fan of. Last time she wanted to sell me on the linearis and was shocked that I told her I'm not a fan of those leaves 😁
I'm not quite sure the engleriana is related to the bella (I mean, they are really, really similar, I think). I just read that about the linearis, but can't remember where.

@TheOddAsity @MusicalRedmint I knew I should’ve walked away from this 😂😂😂
@WildNorth you had your chance. You’re stuck with us now!! 😂
@TheOddAsity for me, this is adulting-avoidance at its finest 👌
@MusicalRedmint yes! The way the linearis hangs is very depressing. It looks too chaotic to me🫤 And I think I passed multiple options of the Sumatra… and I assured myself the next time I wouldn’t… TO THE EXTENT, my sister had already placed an order and I asked her to email them and see if she could add my plants I wanted so we could split shipping!! That’s how much I wasn’t gonna let it get away this time. 😂 I should be embarrassed, but I am not!
@WildNorth oh girl, I’m in FULL AVOIDANCE SWING right now. 🙄
@TheOddAsity I’m telling myself this is my body telling me to rest. It’s important to have some of these mechanisms in place for when plant addicts meet other plant addicts—all bets are off!
PS @MusicalRedmint it is so validating that I’m not the only one who actually feels plant depression. Like, if I try and they die, or I give up on them, fine. But don’t ever get me fresh flowers! OR sad-looking plants!

@TheConservator well plant proper has a Sumatra for $20. It has multiple trailing pieces as well. It would be really hard if a plant seller lives a mile from me! 😂 i have heard the endauensis are slow growing unless the temps and humidity are met. I guess they like at least 90 degrees and full humidity.
@MariansOasis I had never heard of it either!! If I hadn’t gotten it by mistake I don’t think I would even know now! 😂
@TheOddAsity well im def not giving it that hogh tem or humidity soo🤷♂️ but ty for the info! Tbh for all my plants and all my experience with them. I still just wing it alot lol. Get so mucb mixed info on websites i kinda just forget most or dont even try to remember it . Or just not even look it up !😂 like that endau
@TheConservator honestly, I have no idea how I’m gonna care for mine yet 😬 I read they found it in Malaysia on the bank of the river it is named after. So it makes sense that the temps and humidity are what they are.
@TheConservator I actually have those!! They work well, I have 1 assembled and it keeps things around 95%. My issue will be the temperature. I’m in Utah and despite our thermometer being set to 68, my hygrometers usually read between 65-66 🤷🏼♀️
@TheConservator I do have a plant mat like those. Hmm 🧐 guess I’ll get another one 😂
@WildNorth technically you did walk away. Once. I just ran after you 😂.. and then apparently you decided to just actively crawl further down rabbit holes. That's not not walking away, that's running towards doom.
And let's be honest, adulting is boring. One of us...

@TheOddAsity nah. Don't be. The sumatra is so special. I want those blooms. Desperately. And after I got my phuwuaensis, I cannot understand how I ever could have been on the fence about those leaves either (they are a bit similar).
You want to talk "over the top caudata- related behavior"? Truth be told, right now, I'm checking regularly if my shop has stocked up on other species that are special enough for me to justify driving there in person. Because then it would almost make sense to drive there and back for 90 minutes and to pay the same amount as I would for shipping, but for gas. All so that I could talk to her in person, which would be the only way I would even dare ask for a caudata cutting right now. Which is obviously the whole point. 😅
Sooooo let's not be embarrassed about our totally normal behavior together. I'm happy you caved first. It's win-win for me now. If I stay strong now, I can admire and learn from your caudata. And if (when?) I give in, I'm at least in good company.

Love your haul from plant proper ! They are my new go to for Hoyas. Everything so far has been great sized specimens !! I got a Sumatra a few weeks back . I got the trellis option and it’s doing ok. I did loose two of the three new immature leaves shortly after I got it… I am hoping it was just from unhappy during shipping. I know it is a higher humidity Hoya which I do not have a humidifier … I am using a pebble tray… not sure how effective that is … I did some research and any say it’s not an easy grow… I am honestly considering getting a humidifier but not really sure … my other Hoyas really grow well for me without one. I also got a Hoya insularus (wrong spelling) a while back and that’s is suppose to be a hard grow as well but so far that one is doing well. Love your accidental Hoya shipment I think it does resemble a Bella somewhat but it does have character !!!!!
@TheOddAsity I’ve got a linearis and you aren’t missing anything. Mine could die tomorrow and not a care would be given. I love me a good caudata 💚
@TheOddAsity that’s true, a fabulous mistake for you 🙌🪴
@TheConservator I can’t remember if my mat is a seed or reptile but it says it stays between 95-105 degrees. So if I grab another one , it should work.
@MusicalRedmint 😂😂😂 totally normal behavior! I hope everything works out and the stars align for you and your cutting.
@Hoyaobsessed I think I commented on your post? But the orange pot Hoyas… I am repotting them today because as much as I ADORE PP, I have learned to repot immediately. I watered them last night so I will see how many of those water pearls are there. I finally got a humidifier and it really has been good for them. For mine, a pebble tray wasn’t enough. BUT, a small 1L humidifier in the midst of 7-9 Hoyas has been enough. That’s good to know on the Sumatra and it’s humidity needs.
@GaryPoopins I don’t know why but sometimes I feel bad when there is a type of plant I just don’t find attractive. It’s nice to know I’m not alone thinking that little guy isn’t all that 😂

So i have one of these for each of the 4 people i already decided on. I may still pick one more person since i have 5 heat packs but theyll get a different selection of more regular stuff! Maybe a new hota person that doesnt have the regulars . Then i have 3 silver mints ready 1 wilbur graves. And a few other things still! The nova ghosts are still iffy ??? If i dont send now ill send you another package later with them . Or we can just risk sending it unrooted. Figured id let everyone know im working on it. Getting em@out of fluval and into chunky mix today. Let em acclimate 2 weeks and ship 🙌
@TheConservator I think @Hoyaobsessed called the graves! I am so excited as I don’t have any of these! I am happy to take an unrooted cutting if you think it will be okay (my hoya girl send them unrooted but usually come spring)
@TheOddAsity I ended up re potting one of three that were in the orange pots… I will probably take your advice and re pot the rest very soon. The Sumatra is not happy in the orange pot … at least the new growth isn’t anyways.
