Aloe Vera- How to make it happy?

So I was cleaning up a house I bought a while ago, and there was aloe Vera, I couldn’t help but save one and so I did. I potted it in an unglazed pot, and it has direct sun, about 1 to 3 hours of sun it gets. But I want to make it happier! I’m not sure if it takes a while for it to flourish or if I’m doing something wrong. Any tips or advice on taking care of Aloe Vera?

What type of soil is it in?
@Seedstarter It’s just dirt from the ground. I planted it in that because it was growing on the ground, so I was afraid if I put another kind of dirt it wouldn’t grow well.
@FruitsnFlowers, the dirt could be why it wasn't growing well in the first place. It looks like it holds on to too much moisture and either needs to be amended with rocks, perlite, or other aerating material or replaced or mixed with some potting soil to add more air and drainage. The pot is fine, so keep it. Afterward, it is just about giving it plenty of sunlight and some water here and there, and it should bounce back.
@Seedstarter Thank you! I’ll look for some rocks or perlite.
