Welcome to Greg, Cobie! Is that a root that's above ground? Sometimes aerial roots look brown and flaky, but they aren't necessarily rotten. (:

@sarahsalith it was all mushy and the outer part had separated from the inside (looked like a skinny root)

Sometimes, when my aerial roots or sitting on the soil, they rot.

If they are tucked into the soil properly, they will root.

If they don't touch the soil at all, they just hangοΏΌοΏΌοΏΌ.
