My oldest #Aeonium (Aeonium garnet) is in the process of death blooming!ππͺ¦ πΈ
Photos 1-3 track its progress between Jan 6th and now. The last photo shows some of its many offsets, which will carry on its legacy once it leaves us for the great garden in the sky lol π
An interesting little factoid: Most Aeoniums are monocarpic, which means they only flower once in their lifetime. flowering is like a last hurrah, using up all its remaining energy. Other monocarpic plants include Sempervivum and some Kalanchoes and Peperomia π€

Beautiful @stephonicle. I feel so bad telling people who don't know they have a death bloom going. Especially when they're excited about it flowering. Someone's gotta tell em though, ya know?!
@FairyFly lol yeah I was thinking about that as I wrote this post. "Death bloom" has a negative connotation, I could see it sending some folks into a full-blown panic π
@FairyFly but I know exactly what you mean..."guys, look at the gorgeous flowers!! Aren't they pretty!!" ππ€£
@OrangeGrass you don't have to do anything really! As long as it has offsets they can take care of themselves. You can also remove and replant them in a separate pot or wherever your heart desires π€
@FairyFly I know it feela bad but better to prepare them.
@stephonicle also some aloes are monocarpic.
I know people that did all they could to make sure theirs didn't flower because they'd put so much into it and didn't want it to death bloom π

@stephonicle itβs so pretty! I love tho, the sacrifice the plant makes for its final hurrah! Such beauty.
@LittleSongbird my bad! That was supposed to say "some peperomia" π
@LittleSongbird the only one I remember is Peperomia graveolens I think..?
@LittleSongbird I just edited my post π Thanks for pointing that out! π₯°
@stephonicle Thanks for telling me!!
@stephonicle Wow I did not know that! Thanks for sharingπ
