All help wanted!!! New plant momma here! My string of pearls is growing but getting thin on top and her βvinesβ look rough on top too. I ended up cleaning it up and snipping last nightβ¦.how she is rooted in 3 places and no longer at the center. What happened??
She gets plenty of sun as I leave her out in my flower bed while Iβm gone if it isnβt going to rainβ¦I am going to get some succculent soil to see if that helps. She has been in original soil from nursery mixed with potting soil and lots of perlite

Hi Kandyce, welcome to Greg!
I've noticed when it comes to #stringsofthings people either find them really easy or impossible π₯΄
I agree a succulent soil will help. Do you bottom water? Usually that keeps them a bit happier as well.
If you want it to root better you can lay more vines along the soil as they will root where each pearl is.

@PlantMompy well thatβs amazing information!!
@PlantMompy please explain bottom watering
Instead of watering the top of your plant you fill a saucer/bowl/vessel with some water and set your plant pot inside. It'll absorb water from the bottom and stop absorbing when it's saturated. Then the water is coming up to the roots and not needing to make it's way down the them.
It helps a lot of plants that are in our homes because it keeps the top of the soil dry and the roots moist vs the roots waiting for water and any part at the top of the soil hanging out in wetness.
It also helps avoid several pests.

@PlantMompy so just keep filling the saucer up until itβs done soaking it up?
@PlantMompy repotted with succulent soil!! I carefully laid them out making sure all roots were touching soil. But I was scared to water!!!!! Their roots are soooo shallow will bottom watering work?? Or should I very carefully top water around roots still sheβs established again?? There wasnβt any attached to the center root system anymore since all her βvinesβ wilted, shown in my original picture. She had 3-4 shallow root systems
It looks so great!
As for the fertilizer - you can follow the instructions on it. Just be sure to water it in from the top sparingly.
Outside is totally fine. If it's been in the sun for a while it's probably built up the resistance it needs but you can always move it inside or to partial sun.
You can totally top water while it gets established. It's one of those tricky things where some people do it without issue and for others it will cause all the issues. Since it's in succulent soil and in the sun the top of the soil will dry pretty quickly anyway so I don't see it sitting in damp medium. You could also alternate top and bottom watering as well.

@PlantMompy you have been so very helpful!! Thank u! If u donβt mind I have one more plant Iβd like to get your opinion on. I bought 2 things of creeping Jenny that wilted the next day. They had root rot so I cleaned and trimmed roots and potted in fresh soilβ¦they have been sitting for a couple days and have not perked up yet but I also havenβt watered I wanted to give a few days to dry out. I have them on my porch with cover from the sun. Should I water this evening?
@PlantMompy is there a messaging feature on this app where I can message u with my plant problems? Haha
@PlantMompy well thank you! I just someone that knows their stuff to ask questions to
