Avocado experiment: Waterboy thrives, others struggle

#avocadoexperimentπŸ₯‘
✨UPDATE✨

This will likely be the last update on these guys for a few months...
Waterboy (Exp. 02) is doing wonderfully, his leaves are getting big and starting to turn green, he's over a foot tall, and has secondary roots now!

The still unnamed Exp. 03(pothos water) has not grown in weeks and may be dying. His tiny shoot started turning grey and the baby leaves he started have fallen off. πŸ˜”

Eggy (Exp. 04) still shows zero signs of life.

Thomas (Exp. 05) has a tap root and has now taken hold in his pot but still showing nothing up top...

That's amazing!😊
Thanks @CoolNoblefir! (:
@WickedValkyrie awesome job! I have it 3 tried to grow one, but they all died on me. I’ll try again maybe.
You have an AVOCADO ORCHARD (5 trees or more)!!!!
You go with your β€œbougie orchard owning” self!!!🀣
I am an orchard owner alsoπŸ’πŸΌβ€β™€οΈπŸ€£πŸ₯‘
So let’s start #AvocadoOrchardOwners 😍
Hi!! The trick to keeping mine alive was a super well-draining soil, so try that when you plant them!! And maybe eggy would root better in a plastic bag? That’s how I do all of mine now 😁 They look beautiful!
Hi thank you @tango! Eggy is an experiment to see if fully submerging in water helps them crack more evenly all around instead of how they usually crack wider at the bottom... I read it in an article and decided to test it out. (: These guys won't be planted until spring, most likely, but they'll probably go into the same soil as their big brother Hoss when they do... πŸ™ƒ

Here's a link to my post about potting him up if you're interested πŸ™ƒ https://greg.app/post/4c03xw/avocadoexperiment-greatpothosexperiment-updateive-been-putting-it-off-for-a-long-ass-time-cuz-i-was
@WickedValkyrie ohhh ok! I missed that πŸ˜…πŸ˜… What a fun experiment though! I was going to do one experimenting with cutting at 12 inches and one just letting it grow, so maybe we can both try that too!
@tango I cut Hoss at maybe 18" tall(I didn't think to measure him before cutting)... He had like 8 or 9 leaves by that point cuz I was too scared to cut him any sooner. He was doing so spectacularly in his jar, I didn't want to jinx him... Lol Waterboy, on the other hand, is over a foot tall and only has 5 leaves so I'm slightly tempted to cut him... Trying to put it off until spring tho. Lol I've started saving avocado pits tho... In November I'm gonna start another experiment. Lol Might try experimenting with not cutting a couple of those! (:
@WickedValkyrie awesome! I couldn’t bring myself to cut mine, since he had just put out the most beautiful leaf I had ever seen… so I pinched the new growth and he’s been slowly forming a new growth point. I think that did the same thing? Either way he stayed cute and less like a twig πŸ˜‚
Yeah I know in bonsai if you pinch off the terminal buds that'll cause them branch out from the auxillary buds... I hadn't even thought of just pinching off the new growth! Might try that on Waterboy instead of giving him a proper snip...
